For those who have a concept of things, it is impossible to cultivate the unshared dharmas of the Buddha. For those who have a concept of things, it is impossible to cultivate great loving-kindness. For those who have a concept of things, it is impossible to cultivate great compassion. For those who have a concept of things, it is impossible to cultivate the fruit of stream-entry. For those who have a concept of things, it is impossible to cultivate the fruit of once-returner. For those who have a concept of things, it is impossible to cultivate the fruit of non-returner. For those who have a concept of things, it is impossible to cultivate the state of Arhatship. For those who have a concept of things, it is impossible to cultivate self-enlightenment. For those who have a concept of things, it is impossible to cultivate the knowledge of the aspects of the path. For those who have a concept of things, it is impossible to cultivate omniscience. For those who have a concept of things, it is impossible to cultivate the abandonment of all afflictions that connect with habitual tendencies. Why is that? Because in this way, they are attached to things, thinking "this is me," attached to the two extremes.
