A son or daughter of good family might serve, honor, respect, worship, and make offerings, and then dedicate that root of virtue entirely to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Subhuti, what do you think? Would the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase greatly thereby? The Blessed One replied: Yes, Blessed One, greatly. The Well-Gone One, yes, greatly. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, even more than that, if a son or daughter of good family were to show, explain, thoroughly analyze, completely analyze, interpret, differentiate, clarify, and correctly demonstrate this Perfection of Wisdom to others, and were to practice with mindfulness that accords with the Perfection of Wisdom, then their merit would increase even more greatly. Subhuti, if all the sentient beings in Jambudvipa were to obtain human bodies without any precedence, and if those beings were thoroughly established by a certain son or daughter of good family in the path of the ten virtuous actions, thoroughly established in the four concentrations, thoroughly established in the four immeasurables, thoroughly established in the four formless absorptions, thoroughly established in the five superknowledges, thoroughly established in the fruit of stream-entry, thoroughly established in the fruit of once-returning, thoroughly established in the fruit of non-returning, thoroughly established in the state of an Arhat, thoroughly established in self-enlightenment, and thoroughly established in unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, and then dedicate that root of virtue entirely to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Subhuti, what do you think? Would the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase greatly thereby? The Blessed One replied: Yes, Blessed One, greatly. The Well-Gone One, yes, greatly. Among them, some son or daughter of good family diligently cultivates the path of the ten virtuous actions, diligently cultivates the four dhyanas, diligently cultivates the four immeasurables, diligently cultivates the four formless absorptions, diligently cultivates the five superknowledges, diligently cultivates the fruit of stream-entry, diligently cultivates the fruit of once-returning, diligently cultivates the fruit of non-returning, diligently cultivates the state of an arhat, diligently cultivates self-awakening, and diligently cultivates unsurpassed, perfect, and complete awakening, and dedicates that root of virtue entirely to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete awakening. Endowed, what do you think? Would the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase greatly because of that? He replied: Blessed One, it would be great. Well-Gone One, it would be great. The Blessed One said, "Subhuti, even more so, if a son or daughter of good family shows, explains, analyzes, thoroughly analyzes, interprets, distinguishes, clarifies, and correctly indicates this Perfection of Wisdom to others, their merit will increase even more. Subhuti, if all the sentient beings in a two-thousandfold world system were to obtain human bodies simultaneously, and some son or daughter of good family were to establish them in the ten paths of virtuous action, establish them in the four dhyanas, establish them in the four immeasurables, establish them in the four formless absorptions, establish them in the five superknowledges, establish them in the fruit of stream-entry, establish them in the fruit of once-returning, establish them in the fruit of non-returning, establish them in arhatship, establish them in solitary enlightenment, and establish them in unsurpassed and perfect enlightenment, and then dedicate those roots of virtue entirely to unsurpassed and perfect enlightenment, what do you think, Subhuti? Would the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase greatly because of that?" He said, "O Blessed One, it would be great! O Sugata, it would be great!" The Blessed One said, "Subhuti, even more so, if a son or daughter of good family shows, explains, analyzes, thoroughly analyzes, interprets, distinguishes, clarifies, and correctly indicates this Perfection of Wisdom to others, their merit will increase even more.
