O Blessed One, what is the nature of the Perfection of Wisdom? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, the nature of being unattached like space is the Perfection of Wisdom. Subhuti, the Perfection of Wisdom is without nature; there is no nature whatsoever in the Perfection of Wisdom. The venerable Subhuti said: Blessed One, is there such a category that by whatever nature the Perfection of Wisdom possesses, all dharmas also exist? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, it is so, it is so. By whatever nature the Perfection of Wisdom exists, by that very nature all dharmas exist. Why is that? Subhuti, all dharmas are devoid of inherent existence; all dharmas are devoid by all dharmas. All dharmas are empty by all dharmas. Subhuti, in that way, like this, in the nature of emptiness and in the nature of detachment, by whatever nature the Perfection of Wisdom exists, by that all dharmas exist. Subhuti asked: Blessed One, if all dharmas are devoid by all dharmas, and all dharmas are empty by all dharmas, then how can the defilement and purification of sentient beings exist? Blessed One, detachment does not become defilement, nor does it become purification. Emptiness does not become defilement, nor does it become purification. Detachment and emptiness do not manifest perfect enlightenment. Detachment does not see any dharma on emptiness by which enlightenment is manifested. Emptiness also does not see on detachment any sentient being who manifests enlightenment. Blessed One, how should I understand the meaning of that teaching? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, what do you think? Have sentient beings been attached to "I" and "mine" for a long time? He replied: Blessed One, it is so. Sugata, it is so, sentient beings have been attached to self for a long time.

and to act as mine. The Blessed One said: "Rabjor, what do you think? Are 'self' and 'belonging to self' secluded? Are 'self' and 'belonging to self' empty?" He replied: "Blessed One, they are secluded. Sugata, they are empty." The Blessed One said: "Rabjor, what do you think? Do sentient beings run around and revolve around 'self' and 'belonging to self'?" He replied: "Blessed One, it is so. Sugata, it is so. Sentient beings run around and revolve around clinging to 'self' and 'belonging to self'." The Blessed One said: "Rabjor, in that case, sentient beings have afflictions. For those who have nothing to cling to as 'self' and nothing to cling to as 'belonging to self', there is no clinging. For those who have no clinging, sentient beings do not run around and revolve around. Therefore, they have no afflictions. Rabjor, in that case, sentient beings have purification."
