cannot be dedicated, because the nature of the mind with which it is dedicated is also that, and the nature of the dharma to which it is dedicated is also that. If it is dedicated in this way, it is a true dedication, not a perverted one. Thus, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should dedicate all roots of virtue. If a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva dedicates all the roots of virtue of the Buddhas, the Bhagavad-ones, of the past, future, and present, from the first arising of their minds until the duration of the sacred Dharma, and all the roots of virtue of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, and all the roots of virtue generated by many ordinary beings among them, and all the teachings they have heard, and all the roots of virtue generated by gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas among them, and the great and noble kshatriya castes, the great and noble brahmin castes, the great and noble householder castes, the gods of the Four Great Kings, the gods of the Thirty-three, the gods of Yama, the gods of Tushita, the gods of Nirmāṇarati, the gods of Paranirmitavasavartin, the gods of the Brahma hosts, the gods of the Brahma attendants, the gods of the Great Brahma, the gods of Light, the gods of Minor Light, the gods of Immeasurable Light, the gods of Subhakrtsna, the gods of Merit, the gods of Minor Merit, the gods of Immeasurable Merit, the gods of Punya Prasava, the gods of Greatness, the gods of Minor Greatness, the gods of Immeasurable Greatness, the gods of Fruit, the gods of Non-Perception, the gods of Atapa, the gods of Sudarshana, the gods of Akanistha, and all the sacred Dharma they have heard, all with the unsurpassed, perfectly complete Bodhi mind.

Having completely gathered all that has arisen, having concentrated it into one, having measured it, rejoicing in the supreme excellence, the most excellent and pure, abundant, unsurpassed, without superior, without equal, after rejoicing in the unequal and the equal, dedicating all of that to the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. If it is like this, those dharmas are exhausted, ceased, non-existent, transformed. Even the mind with which one dedicates is empty of inherent existence. If one dedicates in that way, it is dedicated to the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. If it is like this, one should not dedicate dharma to dharma. Why is that? Because one should know that all dharmas are empty of inherent existence. If one dedicates in that way, it is dedicated to the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. Thus, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, when practicing the Perfection of Concentration, when practicing the Perfection of Diligence, when practicing the Perfection of Patience, when practicing the Perfection of Morality, when practicing the Perfection of Generosity, perverse conceptions do not arise, perverse mind does not arise, perverse views do not arise. Why is that? Because the Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not cling to dedication, nor does he cling to those roots of virtue. He does not truly see that enlightenment either. He does not truly see the mind of enlightenment to which one would cling, this is the unsurpassed dedication of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. If a Bodhisattva Mahasattva knows that the object of meritorious action that is accumulated is separated from the aggregates, elements, and sources, he knows that it is separated by the Perfection of Wisdom, he knows that it is separated by the Perfection of Concentration, he knows that it is separated by the Perfection of Diligence, he knows that it is separated by the Perfection of Patience.
