Twenty-fourth, Chapter on the Categories of Merit. Twenty-fourth, Chapter on the Categories of Merit. The Hundred Thousand Verses of the Perfection of Wisdom, Volume Ten. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya said to the Venerable Subhuti: Venerable Subhuti, what is the meritorious activity possessed by a Bodhisattva Mahasattva's rejoicing? What is it that a Bodhisattva Mahasattva shares the meritorious activity with all sentient beings, and dedicates it to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment in a non-attached manner? What is the meritorious activity possessed by rejoicing in all sentient beings? And what is the meritorious activity arising from the giving of those who are Hearer Vehicle practitioners and Solitary Buddha Vehicle practitioners, and that arising from moral discipline, and that arising from meditation? Among these, the meritorious activity possessed by a Bodhisattva Mahasattva's rejoicing, shared with all sentient beings, and dedicated to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, this is said to be the best. It is said to be the most excellent. It is said to be the most important. It is said to be the supreme. It is said to be the most outstanding. It is said to be the most abundant. It is said to be unsurpassed. It is said to be the highest. It is said to be incomparable. It is said to be equal among the unequal. Why is that? Because the meritorious activity arising from the giving of those who are Hearer and Solitary Buddha Vehicle practitioners, and that arising from moral discipline, and that arising from meditation, is for the sake of taming oneself, for the sake of pacifying oneself, and for the sake of completely liberating oneself from suffering. It abides closely in the four mindfulnesses, the four correct abandonments, the four legs of miraculous power, the faculties, the powers, the limbs of enlightenment, the eightfold noble path, the four noble truths, the four concentrations, the four immeasurables, the four formless absorptions, and the door of liberation, emptiness.

Without signs and without wishes, as well as the eight liberations, the nine successive meditative stabilizations, the four individual perfect knowledges, and the six supernormal knowledges, are only for the sake of taming myself, for the sake of pacifying myself, and for the sake of completely liberating myself from suffering. The bodhisattva, in order to tame all sentient beings, to pacify them, and to completely liberate all sentient beings from suffering, dedicates the meritorious actions of rejoicing and possessing, shared with all sentient beings, in a non-attached manner, to the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Then, the venerable Subhuti said this to the bodhisattva mahasattva Maitreya: Thus, the bodhisattva mahasattva, in each of the countless, immeasurable, and inconceivable realms of the eastern direction, has countless, immeasurable Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who have passed into complete nirvana, and in each of the countless, immeasurable, and inconceivable realms of the southern direction, has countless, immeasurable Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who have passed into complete nirvana, and in each of the countless, immeasurable, and inconceivable realms of the western direction, has countless, immeasurable Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who have passed into complete nirvana, and in each of the countless, immeasurable, and inconceivable realms of the northern direction, has countless, immeasurable Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who have passed into complete nirvana, and in each of the countless, immeasurable, and inconceivable realms of the northeastern direction, has countless, immeasurable Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who have passed into complete nirvana, and in each of the countless, immeasurable, and inconceivable realms of the southeastern direction, has countless, immeasurable Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who have passed into complete nirvana, and in the southwestern direction
