The reason for saying "Bodhisattvas should be known as boundless" is that, Saradvatiputra, the right abandonments are equal to space. Why is that? For example, in space, the prior limit is not seen, the posterior limit is not seen, the middle is not seen, because it is boundless, everywhere is boundless, therefore it is called space. Saradvatiputra, similarly, the right abandonments are empty, therefore the prior limit of the right abandonments is not seen, the posterior limit is not seen, the middle is not seen. Because in emptiness, neither edge nor middle is seen. Saradvatiputra, therefore, because the right abandonments are boundless everywhere, Bodhisattvas should be known as boundless. And why is it said like this? Because the miraculous feet are boundless, therefore it is said "Bodhisattvas should be known as boundless." Saradvatiputra, the miraculous feet are equal to space. Their prior limit is not seen, their posterior limit is not seen, their middle is not seen, because in emptiness there is no limit or center. Son of the venerable Sharadvati, therefore, since all supports are infinitely boundless, the Bodhisattva should also be understood as infinitely boundless. If someone asks why, because strength is infinitely boundless, the Bodhisattva should be understood as infinitely boundless. Son of the venerable Sharadvati, strengths are equal to the sky. Sharadvati's son, the eightfold noble path is equal to space. Why is that? For example, in space, there is no beginning, no end, no middle, because it is infinitely infinite. Therefore, it is called space. Sharadvati's son, similarly, because the eightfold noble path is emptiness, the eightfold noble path has no beginning, no end, no middle. Because emptiness has no beginning or middle. Sharadvati's son, in this way, because the eightfold noble path is universally infinite, the Bodhisattva should know it as universally infinite.
