Now, why is it said that "because what is taken is boundless, therefore one should know that the Bodhisattva is also boundless"? Son of the venerable Sharadvati, what is taken is equal to space. Why is that? For example, in space, neither the beginning edge is observed, nor the ending edge is observed, nor the middle is observed, because it is boundless in every way, therefore it is called space. Son of the venerable Sharadvati, similarly, because what is taken is emptiness, neither the beginning edge of what is taken is observed, nor the ending edge is observed, nor the middle is observed, because in emptiness neither edge nor middle is observed. Son of the venerable Sharadvati, therefore, because what is taken is boundless in every way, one should know that the Bodhisattva is also boundless. Furthermore, why is it said that "because existence is boundless in every way, therefore one should know that the Bodhisattva is also boundless"? Son of the venerable Sharadvati, existence is equal to space. Why is that? For example, in space, neither the beginning edge is observed, nor the ending edge is observed, nor the middle is observed, because it is boundless in every way, therefore it is called space. Son of the venerable Sharadvati, similarly, because existence is emptiness, neither the beginning edge of existence is observed, nor the ending edge is observed, nor the middle is observed, because in emptiness neither edge nor middle is observed. Son of the venerable Sharadvati, therefore, because existence is boundless in every way, one should know that the Bodhisattva is also boundless. Furthermore, why is it said that "because birth is boundless in every way, therefore one should know that the Bodhisattva is also boundless"? Son of the venerable Sharadvati, birth is equal to space. Why is that? For example, in space, neither the beginning edge is observed, nor the ending edge is observed, nor the middle is observed, because it is boundless in every way, therefore it is called space.

Because, in emptiness, neither edge nor center is discernible. Son of the venerable Sharadvati, for that reason, since birth is boundless, a Bodhisattva should be known as boundless. Furthermore, why is it said that because aging and death are boundless, a Bodhisattva should be known as boundless? Son of the venerable Sharadvati, aging and death are equal to space. Why is that? For example, in space, neither the prior limit is discernible, nor the subsequent limit is discernible, nor is the center discernible, because boundlessness is everywhere boundless, therefore it is called space. Son of the venerable Sharadvati, similarly, because aging and death are emptiness, the prior limit of aging and death is not discernible, the subsequent limit is not discernible, nor is the center discernible.
