The power of earth, the power of mindfulness, the power of samadhi, and the power of wisdom have not fully appeared. This is the power to fully understand what has not been fully understood. So, what is the power of complete understanding? It is the power of faith, the power of diligence, the power of mindfulness, the power of samadhi, and the power of wisdom of those who have become scholars and have fully understood. This is called the power of complete understanding. So, what is the power of realization through complete understanding? It is the power of faith, the power of diligence, the power of mindfulness, the power of samadhi, and the power of wisdom of those who are non-scholars, Arhats, Pratyekabuddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Tathagatas. Subhuti, this is called the power of realization through complete understanding. Subhuti, this is also the Great Vehicle of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva in a non-attached manner. Subhuti, furthermore, the Great Vehicle of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is like this: three samadhis. What are the three? The samadhi with investigation and analysis, the samadhi without investigation but with only analysis, and the samadhi without investigation and without analysis. So, what is the samadhi with investigation and analysis? Subhuti, here, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, being secluded from desires, secluded from sinful and unwholesome dharmas, possessing investigation and analysis, dwells closely in the first dhyana, which has joy and happiness born from seclusion. This is called the samadhi with investigation and analysis. So, what is the samadhi without investigation but with only analysis? It is between the first dhyana and the second dhyana. This is called the samadhi without investigation but with only analysis. So, what is the samadhi without investigation and without analysis? It is the second dhyana, the third dhyana, the fourth dhyana, as well as the attainment of the sphere of infinite space, the attainment of the sphere of infinite consciousness, and a little

Furthermore, there are the meditative attainments of the sphere of nothingness, the meditative attainments of the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, and the meditative absorption of the cessation of perception and feeling. This is called the concentration of impermanence and non-thought. Subhuti, this too, by way of non-objectification, is the great vehicle of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva. Subhuti, furthermore, the great vehicle of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is as follows: the ten recollections. What are the ten? They are: recollection of the Buddha, recollection of the Dharma, recollection of the Sangha, recollection of morality, recollection of generosity, recollection of the deities, recollection of breathing in and out, recollection of peace, recollection of death, and recollection of the body. Subhuti, this too, by way of non-objectification, is the great vehicle of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva. Subhuti, furthermore, the great vehicle of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is as follows: the four dhyanas, the four immeasurables, the four formless meditative attainments, the eight liberations, and the nine sequential abidings. What are the four dhyanas? Here, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, secluded from desires, secluded from evil and unwholesome dharmas, with initial application and sustained application, born of seclusion, full of joy and bliss, he enters and abides in the first dhyana. Then, with the subsiding of initial application and sustained application, with inner tranquility, with unification of mind, without initial application, without sustained application, born of concentration, full of joy and bliss, he enters and abides in the second dhyana. Then, with detachment from joy, he dwells in equanimity, mindful and fully aware, experiencing pleasure with the body, which the noble ones describe as being mindful, experiencing pleasure, and abiding in equanimity. He enters and abides in the third dhyana, which is without joy. He abandons pleasure and pain.

Again, having abandoned also, since mental pleasure and mental displeasure have previously ceased, without pleasure and without suffering, with equanimity and mindfulness completely purified, the fourth dhyana is closely cultivated and dwelt in by means of a non-objective manner. These are the four dhyanas. What are the four immeasurables? Here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, when practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, with a mind endowed with loving-kindness, vast, extremely expansive, non-dual, immeasurable, unobstructed, harmless, unperturbed, completely perfect, and highly cultivated, fills the ten directions, pervading the realms of the world and reaching the limits of space, with faith and practice. He, with a mind endowed with compassion, vast and extremely expansive, non-dual, immeasurable, unobstructed, harmless, unperturbed, completely perfect, and highly cultivated, fills the ten directions, pervading the realms of the world and reaching the limits of space, with faith and practice. He, with a mind endowed with joy, vast and extremely expansive, non-dual, immeasurable, unobstructed, harmless, unperturbed, completely perfect, and highly cultivated, fills the ten directions, pervading the realms of the world and reaching the limits of space, with faith and practice. These are the four immeasurables. What are the four formless attainments? Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, when practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, in all aspects, completely transcends the perception of form, the perceptions of resistance cease, and without attending to various perceptions, (thinks) space is infinite, thus it is the sphere of infinite space.
