approaches and abides by means of forbearance. This is the meditation of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. When a Bodhisattva Mahasattva equally measures and arises with the aspect, manner, and characteristics of space in these meditations, these immeasurables, and these formless existences, this is the perfection of wisdom of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, which completely inclines towards all-knowingness. Sharadvatiputra, thus, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is said to have rightly entered the Great Vehicle. Sharadvatiputra, furthermore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, with a mind endowed with loving-kindness, a great mind, a very vast mind, a non-dual mind, an immeasurable mind, an unconfined mind, a harmless mind, a non-hateful mind, a completely perfect mind, a very cultivated mind, fills the ten directions, pervading the entire realm of phenomena, reaching the limits of space, and believes and practices. With a mind endowed with compassion, a great mind, a very vast mind, a non-dual mind, an immeasurable mind, an unconfined mind, a harmless mind, a non-hateful mind, a completely perfect mind, a very cultivated mind, fills the ten directions, pervading the entire realm of phenomena, reaching the limits of space, and believes and practices.

He approaches and abides in the first dhyana. With the cessation of vitarka and vicara, the mind is completely calmed within, the stream of consciousness becomes one, without vitarka, without vicara, born of joy and bliss from samadhi, he approaches and abides in the second dhyana. Having abandoned attachment to joy, he abides in equanimity, endowed with mindfulness and awareness, experiencing bliss with the body, which the noble ones describe as having mindfulness, experiencing bliss, abiding in equanimity. He approaches and abides in the third dhyana, which is without joy. Having abandoned bliss, and also having abandoned suffering, with the previous cessation of joy and sorrow, he approaches and abides in the fourth dhyana, which is without bliss, without suffering, completely purified by equanimity and mindfulness. He completely transcends all perceptions of form, with the disappearance of perceptions of resistance, not attending to various perceptions, thinking, 'Space is infinite,' he approaches and abides in the sphere of infinite space. He completely transcends the sphere of infinite space, thinking, 'Consciousness is infinite,' he approaches and abides in the sphere of infinite consciousness. He completely transcends the sphere of infinite consciousness, thinking, 'There is nothing at all,' he approaches and abides in the sphere of nothingness. He completely transcends the sphere of nothingness, he approaches and abides in the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. This is the samadhi of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. That Bodhisattva Mahasattva, with great compassion as the forerunner of a mind endowed with all-knowingness, in order to completely abandon afflictions, speaks, explains, shows, elucidates, analyzes, and clarifies to others those samadhis of dhyana, immeasurables, and formless absorptions, and also properly shows their benefits, faults, and arising. This is the Bodhisattva.

It is the perfection of generosity of the great hero Bodhisattva. When a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, with the intention of possessing all-knowingness, engages in and arises from the samadhi of dhyana, immeasurables, and formless absorptions, such as not understanding the aspiration of a Hearer or a Solitary Buddha, this is the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva's unbroken perfection of discipline. Thus, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, with the intention of possessing all-knowingness, practices with the samadhi of dhyana, immeasurables, and formless absorptions, thinking, "I will teach the Dharma in order to exhaust the afflictions of all sentient beings," and enduring, believing, contemplating, remembering, and comprehending these intentions, this is the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva's perfection of patience. When a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, with the intention of possessing all-knowingness, practices with the samadhi of dhyana, immeasurables, and formless absorptions, not diminishing effort for the sake of all sentient beings and all-knowingness, this is the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva's perfection of diligence. When a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, with the intention of possessing all-knowingness, engages in and arises from dhyana, liberation, samadhi, and samapatti, not falling into the ground of a Hearer or a Solitary Buddha, this is the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva's perfection of meditation. When a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, with the intention of possessing all-knowingness, practices the limbs of the first dhyana, the limbs of the second dhyana, the limbs of the third dhyana, the limbs of the fourth dhyana, as well as loving-kindness, compassion, joy, equanimity, the sphere of infinite space, and the sphere of infinite consciousness.
