Having subsided, the inner being is completely calm. The mind stream becomes one, without discrimination, without analysis, abiding in the joy and happiness born from samadhi, approaching and abiding in the second dhyana. He, being free from desire due to joy, possesses mindfulness, maintains awareness, and dwells in equanimity. He experiences happiness with the body, and the noble ones call it having mindfulness, practicing equanimity towards happiness. Thus it is said, approaching and abiding in the third dhyana, which is without joy. He abandons happiness and also abandons suffering. Since the previous mental pleasure and displeasure have also ceased, there is neither happiness nor suffering. With equanimity and mindfulness, he approaches and abides in the fourth dhyana. He fills the ten directions, extending to the limits of space, with a mind of loving-kindness that is vast, extremely expansive, non-dual, immeasurable, unobstructed, harmless, unperturbed, complete, and thoroughly cultivated, pervading the entire realm of phenomena, and he generates faith and practices accordingly. He fills the ten directions, extending to the limits of space, with a mind of compassion that is vast, extremely expansive, non-dual, immeasurable, unobstructed, harmless, unperturbed, complete, and thoroughly cultivated, pervading the entire realm of phenomena, and he generates faith and practices accordingly. He fills the ten directions, extending to the limits of space, with a mind of joy that is vast, extremely expansive, non-dual, immeasurable, unobstructed, harmless, unperturbed, complete, and thoroughly cultivated, pervading the entire realm of phenomena, and he generates faith and practices accordingly. He fills the ten directions, extending to the limits of space, with a mind of equanimity, without focusing on anything, that is vast, extremely expansive, non-dual, immeasurable, unobstructed, harmless, unperturbed, complete, and thoroughly cultivated, pervading the entire realm of phenomena, and he generates faith and practices accordingly. He completely transcends the perception of form in every way.

Again, having completely transcended the realm of form, ceased the perceptions of resistance, and not attending to various perceptions in the mind, (entering) the state of "infinite space," abiding in the sphere of infinite space. Again, in all respects, having completely transcended the sphere of infinite space, (entering) the state of "infinite consciousness," abiding in the sphere of infinite consciousness. Again, in all respects, having completely transcended the sphere of infinite consciousness, (entering) the state of "nothingness," abiding in the sphere of nothingness. Again, in all respects, having completely transcended the sphere of nothingness, abiding in the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception in a way that does not take as an object. This is the meditation of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. When a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, with the aspect, manner, and characteristics of space, engages in equipoise and arises from these meditations, these immeasurables, and these existences in the formless realm, completely inclining towards all-knowingness, this is the perfection of meditation of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. So, how does one practice the Perfection of Wisdom? Separated from desires, separated from unwholesome dharmas, with initial application and sustained application, born of separation, with joy and pleasure, abiding in the first dhyana. After the cessation of initial application and sustained application, with inner purity, the mind becoming unified, without initial application and without sustained application, born of concentration, with joy and pleasure, abiding in the second dhyana. Separated from attachment to joy, with mindfulness and awareness, abiding in equanimity, experiencing pleasure with the body, the noble ones say, "Mindful, abiding happily in equanimity," abiding in the third dhyana without joy. Having abandoned pleasure, having abandoned suffering, and with the previous cessation of mental pleasure and displeasure, neither with pleasure nor with suffering
