Then, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva newly entered into the Great Vehicle, upon hearing this teaching, would they not be afraid, terrified, and frightened? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is newly entered into the Great Vehicle, and is also unskilled in the means of the Perfection of Wisdom, and has not come into the hands of a virtuous friend, they will be afraid, terrified, and frightened. He asked: Blessed One, what is the skillful means of the Perfection of Wisdom by which a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, upon hearing this teaching, is not afraid, not terrified, and not frightened? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, here, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, with a mind endowed with all-knowingness, he contemplates that form is impermanent, but does not fixate on it. With a mind endowed with all-knowingness, he contemplates that feeling is impermanent, but does not fixate on it. With a mind endowed with all-knowingness, he contemplates that perception is impermanent, but does not fixate on it. With a mind endowed with all-knowingness, he contemplates that formation is impermanent, but does not fixate on it. With a mind endowed with all-knowingness, he contemplates that consciousness is impermanent, but does not fixate on it. Subhuti, this is the skillful means by which a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom. Furthermore, Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, with a mind endowed with all-knowingness, he contemplates that form is suffering, but does not fixate on it. With a mind endowed with all-knowingness, he contemplates that feeling is suffering, but does not fixate on it.
