Even if one thinks, "Even the sound of the Holy Dharma disappearing will not occur," one should still train in the Perfection of Wisdom. Sharadvatiputra, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, they should contemplate in this way: Even if one thinks, "Merely hearing my name, many sentient beings in worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges will surely attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment," one should still train in the Perfection of Wisdom. Sharadvatiputra, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom in this way and accomplishes these qualities, the Four Great Kings will also rejoice, saying, "We should also offer to this Bodhisattva the alms bowls that the former great kings offered to the Buddhas of the past." They will rejoice, saying, "We should pay homage and respect to this Bodhisattva." The gods of the Thirty-Three Heavens will also rejoice. The gods of Yama will also rejoice. The gods of Tushita will also rejoice. The gods of Nirmanarati will also rejoice. The gods of Paranirmita-vasavartin will also rejoice. In this way, the ranks of the Asuras will decrease, and the ranks of the gods will increase. We should entreat this Bodhisattva to manifest enlightenment and turn the Wheel of Dharma. The gods of the Brahma realm will also rejoice. The gods of Abhasvara will also rejoice. The gods of Brihatphala will also rejoice. The gods of Avriha will also rejoice. The gods of Atapa will also rejoice. The gods of Sudarshana will also rejoice. The gods of Sudarshana will also rejoice. The gods of Akanistha will also rejoice. Sharadvatiputra, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom and the six perfections increase, sons and daughters of the Bodhisattva lineage,

Their daughters will also think: We are this great being's father, mother, brothers, sisters, wives, sons, daughters, friends, ministers, relatives, companions, and benefactors. Thinking thus, they will rejoice. Because the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva lacks a retinue of consorts, the Four Great Kings and the gods belonging to the retinue of the Four Great Kings, the gods of the Thirty-Three, the gods of Yama, the gods of Tushita, the gods of Nirmāṇarati, the gods of Paranirmita-vaśavartin, the gods of the Brahma realm, the gods of Brahma-pāriṣadya, the gods of Brahma-purohita, the gods of Mahābrahmā, the gods of Ābhāsvara, the gods of Parīttābha, the gods of Apramāṇābha, the gods of Ābhā-subhakṛtsna, the gods of Śubhakṛtsna, the gods of Parīttaśubha, the gods of Apramāṇaśubha, the gods of Śubha-vṛddha, the gods of Bṛhatphala, the gods of Parīttabṛhat, the gods of Apramāṇabṛhat, the gods of Bṛhatphala, the gods of Avṛha, the gods of Atapa, the gods of Sudṛśa, the gods of Sudarśana, and the gods of Akanishtha will also rejoice. This is because they practice brahmacarya in order to establish beings in enlightenment, and not to be gathered by the laws of gathering. They aspire thus: From the moment I first generated the mind, I will practice brahmacarya, and there will be no time when I do not practice brahmacarya. Why is that? Because dependence on desire obstructs even birth in the Brahma realm, what need is there to mention unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment? Therefore, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, having gone forth, should practice brahmacarya, and should manifestly awaken to unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and should not fail to practice brahmacarya. The Hundred Thousand Verses of the Perfection of Wisdom, Chapter Five. Having spoken thus, the Venerable Śāradvatīputra said this to the Blessed One: Blessed One, should the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva avoid seeing fathers, mothers, sisters, sons, and daughters? The Blessed One said: Śāradvatīputra, some Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas will

, and must not be devoured by demons. Sons, daughters, and wives are not needed. Some, however, require that fathers, mothers, wives, sons, and daughters not be devoured by demons. Sharadvatiputra, some Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, from the moment they generate the initial thought, perfectly embrace pure conduct, remaining youthful until they manifestly awaken to unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Some Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, through skillful means, in order to fully ripen sentient beings, fully engage in the five objects of desire, manifest from within a retinue of wives, and manifestly awaken to unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Sharadvatiputra, some Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, who profoundly practice the perfection of wisdom, are free from the afflictions of desire. Some, in order to fully ripen sentient beings, also demonstrate engaging in the objects of desire, but they do not actually engage in them with attachment. Sharadvatiputra, it is like this: for example, a magician or a skilled assistant of a magician, who is very well-versed in magical mantras and the methods of application, might conjure up the five objects of desire and show himself reveling, delighting, and fully engaging in those five objects of desire. Sharadvatiputra, what do you think about this? Does that magician or the magician's assistant actually engage in the five objects of desire? He replied, "Bhagavan, that is not the case." The Bhagavan said, "Sharadvatiputra, similarly, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas who are well-versed in the illusion of the Great Vehicle, who have attained excellent practice through the illusion-like nature of phenomena, and who are free from all afflictions, also demonstrate engaging in the five objects of desire through the power of great compassion, in order to tame and fully ripen sentient beings. However, they are not accompanied by those desires, nor are they led by them. Sharadvatiputra, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, in various ways, speak of the faults of desires, because desires are
