Thus practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, one will not completely fall away from unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. When this teaching of the Perfection of Wisdom was taught, three hundred monks offered their worn robes to the Blessed One and generated the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Then, at that time, the Blessed One smiled. Then, the venerable Ananda rose from his seat, draped his upper robe over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and, with palms joined, bowed to the Blessed One, saying, "Blessed One, the Tathagatas, Arhats, perfectly and completely enlightened Buddhas, do not smile without a cause or reason. What is the cause, what is the reason for your smiling?" When he had asked this, the Blessed One said to the venerable Ananda, "Ananda, these three hundred monks, after sixty-one eons, in an eon called 'Like a Sound,' a Tathagata, Arhat, perfectly and completely enlightened Buddha named Great Fortune will appear in the world. These, after dying from here, will be born in the Buddha-field of the Immovable Buddha. Sixty thousand sons of gods who delight in desire will also generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and they will also please the Tathagata, Arhat, perfectly and completely enlightened Maitreya Buddha. They will go forth there and practice the pure conduct, and that Tathagata Maitreya will also prophesy their unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Then, by the power of the Buddha, at that time those four assemblies, while remaining here, saw a thousand Buddhas in the east. They saw a thousand Buddhas in the south. They saw a thousand Buddhas in the west. They saw a thousand Buddhas in the north. They saw a thousand Buddhas in the northeast direction. They saw a thousand Buddhas in the southeast

A thousand Buddhas of the eastern direction appeared. A thousand Buddhas of the southwestern direction appeared. A thousand Buddhas of the northwestern direction appeared. A thousand Buddhas of the lower direction appeared. A thousand Buddhas of the upper direction appeared. In those world realms, the qualities of the Buddha-fields of those Buddhas, the Bhagavat, and the distinctions of the qualities of the Buddha-fields that were seen, were not seen to exist in this Saha world realm. Then, ten thousand beings from within that assembly made the aspiration: 'By what actions shall we be born in those Buddha-fields? We shall practice such actions.' Then, the Bhagavat, having understood the thoughts of those sons of good family, smiled. Then, the venerable Ananda rose from his seat, arranged his upper robe over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and, with his palms joined, bowed down towards the Bhagavat and said to the Bhagavat: 'Bhagavat, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, do not smile without a cause or condition. What is the cause, what is the condition, for which you have smiled?' The Bhagavat said: 'Ananda, do you see these ten thousand beings?' He replied: 'Bhagavat, I see them.' The Bhagavat said: 'Ananda, these ten thousand beings, having passed away from here, will be born in those Buddha-fields. They will never be separated from the Tathagatas, the Arhats, the perfectly complete Buddhas, and in a future time, they will all appear in the world as Tathagatas, Arhats, perfectly complete Buddhas, named King of Jewels.' Then, the venerable son of Sharadvati, and the venerable son of Maha Maudgalyayana, and the venerable Subhuti, and the venerable Purna Maitreyiputra, the son of a good friend, and the venerable Maha Kasyapa, and all the other monks who possessed very great supernormal knowledge, and very many Bodhisattva Mahasattvas.
