Mala, this is called the affairs of the bathhouse. What are the affairs of a Bhikshu bathing in the bathhouse? The Blessed One permitted Bhikshus to bathe in the bathhouse, not for the sake of fatness, not for the sake of arrogance, not for the sake of adornment, not for the sake of delusion, but for the sake of nourishing this body. The bathhouse has five qualities: it eliminates sweat and odor, brightens the skin and complexion, removes diseases from the skin, eliminates wind and phlegm, and the bathhouse makes one free from disease. Furthermore, there are five qualities: it eliminates sweat and odor, brightens the skin and complexion, removes diseases from the skin, eliminates wind and phlegm, and one should generate renunciation in the bathhouse. If a Bhikshu wants to bathe in the bathhouse, he should first inform the Upadhyaya, and be patient during the bathing. Consciously enter the bathhouse, sit in the lotus position, and manifest the feeling of being sick. Sit in front of the bathing place and do not feel uncomfortable. Maintain mindfulness and work. Bhikshus, even when working, practice working. Without informing the Upadhyaya and Acharya, do not work for equals. Even if you do, do not consider it your own merit. If there is resentment towards the Upadhyaya and Acharya, do not wander around in front of them. If you want to pour water, mix cold water and pour it in. If the water is hot, also tell your companion that the water is hot. After bathing consciously, the bathhouse has beds, mats, body cloths, towels, and other bathhouse utensils, whatever there is, wash them well and put them back in their place, this is called the affairs of bathing in the bathhouse. What are the affairs of the Elder in the bathhouse? In the bathhouse, the Bhikshu Elder should not rebuke the new Bhikshus if they are focused on the utensils. In the bathhouse, even if only a little sweat comes from the body, do not rebuke them. If the Bhikshus there are not behaving properly, or are not sitting well, or are indulging in idle talk, the Bhikshu Elder should dissuade and stop them. They should be taught and guided towards propriety and goodness. Just like the Dharma used there.
