The detailed practice is as follows: One should act like the monks of Klung Gadhan. This is called the practice of not speaking. What is the practice of entering the summer retreat? A monk who wishes to enter the summer retreat should think very carefully, observe very carefully, and examine as if examining very carefully, and then enter the retreat. In the place where one resides, there should be monks who are virtuous, possess qualities, are wise, possess good Dharma, have the same views, the same dwelling, the same companions, and are of the same mind, so that one can be happy together. Such as walking, such as speaking, etc., in that place there should be monks who hold the sutras, hold the vinaya, and hold the matrika, so that doubts that have not arisen will not arise, and doubts that have arisen will be subdued; sins that have not arisen will not arise, and sins that have arisen will be subdued. In that place, there should be medicine, food, implements, and offerings that are suitable for my illness. In that place, my body and mind will be at ease. In that place, there should be no monks who do evil, reveal shortcomings, fight, or argue. They should not become obstacles for me to attain what has not been attained, to understand what has not been understood, and to manifest what has not been manifested. In that place, the sangha should not be divided during the summer. Thus, think very carefully, observe very carefully, and examine very carefully, and then go with companions who will take care of the sick. This is called the practice of entering the summer retreat. What is the practice of having entered the summer retreat? A monk who has entered the summer retreat should not go outside the boundary for even one day for meaningless matters. If there is an important matter, then one should bless it for seven days or forty days before going out. This is also for the sake of important matters. What are the important matters? For the sake of a monk, or for the sake of a nun, or for the sake of a novice, or for the sake of a novice nun, or for the sake of a lay devotee, or for the sake of a laywoman, or for the sake of relatives, or for one's own sake. That is for the sake of the Buddha, for the sake of the Dharma, or for the sake of the Sangha.

Suffering, or accumulation, or cessation, or the path is also acceptable. Doubt, or two minds, or suspicion is also acceptable. From not attaining, the thought of having attained arises; from not understanding, the thought of having understood arises; from not manifesting, the thought of manifesting arises. Thus, the meaning of other wandering non-Buddhists is also acceptable. If that monk dissolves the summer retreat in that place, or a stupa, or a temple is destroyed, or burned down, it is also acceptable. For that monk, for the sake of the Buddha, or the Dharma, or the Sangha, it is also acceptable. Bless and go for seven days, or forty days. Having gone from there, if seven days, or forty days, are obtained, then the monk will not incur the fault of breaking the summer retreat. This is called the activity of entering the summer retreat. What is the activity of the elder who has entered the summer retreat? The elder monk who has entered the summer retreat should know the affairs of the temple and the stupa. How to repair, generate joy in whoever does it, should be proclaimed. Whoever does not do it should be encouraged. This should be remembered. This is called the activity of the elder who has entered the summer retreat. What is the activity of dwelling in the summer retreat? The monks dwelling in the summer retreat should perform three kinds of activities: the dwellings where they dwell in the summer, those that are cracked and destroyed, should be repaired. Marks should be made, and marks should be made to be made. Whatever clothes are found in that place, those clothes should be laid down permanently, or they should be laid down. This is called the activity of dwelling in the summer retreat. What is the activity of the retinue? The leader of the retinue should, from time to time, treat the retinue well, and what is not well, what is beautifully accomplished, and what is not beautifully accomplished, and having examined it, whoever behaves well and accomplishes beautifully should be fully protected. Venerable one, well done, well done! As you behave, so should you behave, generate joy, and be truly happy. He should show it outwardly from time to time and teach it. What is not well behaved or not beautifully accomplished
