Do not stop and give up after entering and before finishing. The so-called starting to wash feet refers to the state where the feet are slightly moistened by water when young. If the monks' behavior is not proper, when they start talking and sitting down, the elder monks should stop them. They should be admonished, taught, and guided towards proper behavior. Like the elder who washes feet, they should be guided to practice the corresponding Dharma. This is called the duty of the elder who washes feet. What is the duty of sitting? The monks who live in the monastery and residence should gather together on the eighth, fourteenth, and fifteenth days of the month and speak the Dharma spoken by the Buddha or the Shravakas. They should gather in the morning, immediately after ringing the bell or the ghanta. After gathering quickly, they should sit with mindfulness. After sitting with mindfulness, they should maintain mindfulness. Do not let the mind wander. They should behave solemnly and be perfectly complete. They should be very cautious. They should be very joyful. They should avoid noise. The eyes should not wander, and they should look at the distance of the yoke. They should be respectful and humble. They should have fear and obedience. They should regard the humble mind as like a broom. They should have a loving heart for the elders, middle-aged, and new monks. They should have a beneficial heart. They should have a joyful heart, and regard them as brothers and sons. They should be skilled in sitting, and after sitting, they should spend the night with words of Dharma that are repeatedly confirmed. If they are uncomfortable, they can also spend the night with two kinds of behavior: walking and standing. When the monks gather and sit down, they should listen to the Dharma on time and listen respectfully. They should listen, not slander. They should engage in it properly. Do not look for faults. They should show respect for the Dharma. Do not despise the person who speaks the Dharma. Do not belittle yourself. They should think single-mindedly that this is the teaching, and they should not let their ears wander, and they should listen to the Dharma with a respectful heart and a single-minded collection of all minds. After that, there are the gods, kings, patrons, and those who give alms.
