信心和,忆念近住和,心不散乱和,不忘失和,多少以此足够就取多少,这称为乞食之行。何为乞食之行?乞食之行之比丘应以正知而入,以正知而住,以正知而站立,忆念近住和,心不散乱和,端庄和,具足行仪和,极调伏和,极覆盖和,语默然和,眼不游移且观察轭木,诸根调伏和,意不外散和,前后知解和,见如母之妇女则近住母之想,见如姊之妇女则近住姊之想,见如女之妇女则现前住女之想。乞食之行之比丘,街道和,集市和,四岔路口和,三岔路口和,房门等的相不应取。去到家门后,口中发出声音,缓慢地轻轻敲门。若妇女已入睡,则摇动门环令其醒来。若进入舂米之处,则应在舂杵敲击两三次之间停留。若进入焚烧之处,则应在一捆柴烧完之前停留。若进入磨坊,则应在转动两三次之间停留。应忆念近住,心不散乱地乞食,取多少足够就取多少。若比丘以乞食为行而欲食,则应在僧团中食用。若被邀请,也应接受,乞食之行应以此舍弃,这称为乞食之行。何为乞食之行?乞食之比丘应知时知量地乞食,应知晓,应现前安住忆念,应心不散乱,不杂乱,不混杂,无论如何应端庄且寂静,无论如何不应以不净物沾染,不应以仓促且粗鲁之态,应清净且端庄,应仓促且如愿而来,不应说不合时宜之语。

Faith and, mindfulness closely established and, mind not distracted and, not forgetting and, however much is enough with that, take that much, this is called the practice of alms-seeking. What is the practice of alms-seeking? A monk practicing alms-seeking should enter with full awareness, stay with full awareness, stand with full awareness, mindfulness closely established and, mind not distracted and, dignified and, possessing proper conduct and, extremely restrained and, extremely covered and, speech silent and, eyes not wandering and examining the yoke, senses restrained and, mind not outwardly distracted and, knowing before and after and, seeing a woman like a mother, establish the perception of a mother; seeing a woman like a sister, establish the perception of a sister; seeing a woman like a daughter, manifestly establish the perception of a daughter. A monk practicing alms-seeking should not take note of streets and, marketplaces and, crossroads and, three-way intersections and, doorways of houses. Having gone to the door of a house, make a sound in the mouth, and gently and softly knock on the door. If a woman is asleep, shake the door ring to wake her. If entering a place where pounding is done, one should stay until the pestle has struck two or three times. However, if entering a place where burning is done, one should stay until one bundle has been burned. If it becomes a mill, one should stay until it has turned two or three times. Mindfulness should be closely established. Without the mind being distracted, alms should be taken. As much as is enough, that much should be taken. If a monk practicing alms-seeking wishes to eat, he should eat within the Sangha. If invited, he should also accept, the practice of alms-seeking should be relinquished in this way, this is called the practice of alms-seeking. What is the practice of receiving food? A monk receiving food should know the time and measure and go for alms. He should know. Mindfulness should be manifestly established. The mind should not be distracted. Not confused. Not mixed. In any case, it should be dignified and solitary. In any case, it should not be defiled by unclean things, and not in a hasty and rude manner. It should be clean and dignified. It should be hasty and come as desired. One should not speak inappropriate words.

The monks of the monastery should not generate arrogance, should not be hypocritical, should be respectful, should be dependent on others, should not contradict, speech should be firm, should have shame and embarrassment, should not speak too much, should not speak words that will turn into quarrels, should be diligent, should not be lazy.
