Do not do. And do not do too much. Do it like feathers falling backwards. Enter into the arising. Show prostration. Even if a monk who abides properly gives an alms bowl, do not accept it. Do not accept robes either. Do not accept food either. Do not shave his hair either. Do not work in the bathhouse either. Until sickness arises, do not undertake the work of a monk who abides properly in all tasks. Do not surround the cherished secret place with vows when all the Sangha have gathered and are dwelling there. Do not surround all places of power with vows either. Do not bless the twelve places of individuals with vows either, this is called the act of expulsion. What is the act of dwelling separately? There are two kinds of dwelling separately: one is when one makes oneself dwell separately, and the other is when the Sangha acts according to the Dharma. What is it to make oneself dwell separately? It is when one knowingly goes from the side of the Dharma to the side of non-Dharma. Thus, one makes oneself dwell separately. What is it for the Sangha to act according to the Dharma? It is when the Sangha does not regret, does not postpone, and abandons with a reasonable request and four karmas, the Sangha gathered according to the Dharma. Thus, the Sangha abandons according to the Dharma. Similarly, dwelling together is also of two kinds: one is when one makes oneself dwell together, and the other is when the Sangha acts according to the Dharma. What is it to make oneself dwell together? It is when one knowingly comes from the side of non-Dharma to the side of Dharma. Thus, one makes oneself dwell together. What is it for the Sangha to act according to the Dharma? It is when the Sangha is incurable and cannot be postponed, therefore the Sangha gathered according to the Dharma abandons, and is expelled by a present request and four karmas. Thus, the monk who dwells separately, having been acted upon by the Sangha according to the Dharma, should not be expelled, as before. Just as the Sangha has done the act of abandonment to someone, the other is the same as that. He should not commit such an offense, nor should he be more excessive than that.

Up to the middle. It cannot be resolved by a Sangha of fewer than twelve people. A monk who abides separately should subdue the elder, middle, and newly learned monks who practice the same Brahmacharya. Do not break precepts. If a precept is broken, it should be restored. If it is not restored, then he should abide separately. He should be admonished thus: The Sangha treats you like driving a stake. Treats you like driving a wooden stake. That offense should also be confessed to the Sangha, and cannot be confessed outside the Sangha. Your actions should also be restored by those Sanghas, and cannot be restored outside the Sangha. If you do not confess that offense, or do not restore it, then those who know the same Brahmacharya will speak wherever they want to speak. If even after doing that, he is not subdued, then that person should be treated like driving a stake, treated like driving a wooden stake, and then abandoned. It is like a wild horse. This is called abiding separately. What should an arbitrator do? In order to pacify disputes, a monk arbitrator with twenty-two qualities should be sought. What are the twenty-two? Possessing morality, having previously received full ordination, having shame and remorse, guarding precepts and liking to learn, being learned and able to remember what is heard, accumulating what is heard, being proficient in the meaning of the scriptures, being very knowledgeable about the Vinaya and the higher Vinaya, being skilled in debate, being skilled in the occurrence of debate, being skilled in pacifying debate, being skilled in preventing debate from recurring after it has been pacified, being skilled in treatises, being skilled in things and skilled in using things, being without anger, not speaking with anger, not becoming angry, behaving gently, being able to understand body, speech, and admonishment, fully admonishing and fully doing, making people understand and being able to make up for it after understanding, speaking after thinking and being able to make people understand what is said after thinking, not going to greed, not going to hatred, not going to delusion, not going to fear.
