Please write it down. The story takes place in Shravasti. At that time, a severe hailstorm fell in Shravasti, and many deer and birds died. Many people got up early in the morning and collected and took away any deer and birds that could be eaten. They threw away things like crows that were not edible. The group of six monks ate a lot and slept for a long time. After a long time, it dawned, and as soon as they heard the news, they quickly came out of their caves and took crows, owls, vultures, and seagulls. Brahmins and householders saw this and said, "What are these venerable ones going to do?" They said, "Eat." Then they said, "These venerable ones have thrown away what is not edible, and if they find something else, they will take it. Why don't they eat these?" The monks reported this to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said, "Monks, do not eat the meat of crows and other inedible animals. If you eat it, you will commit a transgression." This is the fourth verse of the first chapter of the Pratimoksha Sutra. In short: dogs, eagles, owls, and birds that eat human flesh, horses, mules, foxes, and monkeys should not be eaten. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was staying in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's monastery, in Shravasti. A famine occurred, and the residents began to eat dog meat. The group of six monks went begging for alms in Shravasti, and wherever they went, they were told, "Venerable ones, there is nothing at all." Then they came to another house, and there they saw dog meat being cooked in a pot, boiling. The householder's wife said, "Venerable ones, there is nothing at all, please leave." They said, "What is boiling in the pot?" "Venerable ones, this is dog meat. Do you eat dog meat?" "Venerable ones, because there is a famine, we are looking for food." "If that is so, give us some too." "Venerable ones, do you also eat it?" "Yes, our lives depend on you. If you eat it, why shouldn't we eat it?" They gave it. They took the meat that was given and left. The dogs smelled the scent and surrounded them, saying, 'Mine, mine.'

Brahmins and householders who followed the sound like the outside saw them and said: Venerable ones, why are you being chased by dogs? They said: We have begged for some dog meat. Venerable ones, do you eat dog meat? Alas, if we cannot beg like this, will we not die of hunger? When this happened, the monks reported it to the Blessed One. The Blessed One thought: If the monks eat dog meat, it will become a target of sin. Therefore, monks, do not eat dog meat! If monks eat dog meat, they will commit a transgression. The origin of the matter was in Shravasti. The group of six monks ate the meat of eagles, owls, and birds that eat human flesh. Unbelieving Brahmins and householders ridiculed them. When this happened, the monks reported it to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said: Monks, do not eat the meat of eagles, owls, and birds that eat human flesh! If monks eat the meat of eagles, owls, and birds that eat human flesh, they will commit a transgression. The origin of the matter was in Shravasti. Those who take what is not given stole a mule belonging to King Pasenadi of Kosala, led it away, and killed it in a dense forest, took the meat, and threw away the head and hooves. The group of six monks, accustomed to the Dharma, got up early the next morning, went to the top of the house, looked in the four directions, and went to where the smoke was thickest and where the vultures were circling. They saw vultures circling in the dense forest. Those people ran quickly into the dense forest. In that dense forest, they saw the mule's head, legs, and tail. Those people said: Friend, dear friend, if we find a pile of dust, shall we take it? They replied: Very well, take it. Then they gathered those things together. The mule drivers searched everywhere and saw them, and said: Venerable ones, since you hold the banner of a Shramana, why do you do evil deeds? What is our offense? They replied: You killed the king's mule. They replied: May the sin be pacified, we are not people.
