discarding them and not using them, and having become unsuitable, after that happened, the monks requested the Blessed One. The Blessed One said: If the monastic seat cushion is slightly torn or ripped, do not discard it, if it is torn, patch it with a patch, if it is ripped, sew it back together. The old things inside should be taken out and filled with new things. If there are still usable things among the old things, make them into lamp wicks for lamp oil. If that is also not possible, mix it with cow dung or soil and use it to fill the cracks in the pillars or the cracks in the walls. Doing so is giving, and the benefactor will also be able to use it for a long time. This is the third verse of the Sutra of the Four Solitary Doors. In short: Food, that is lamp oil, and oil for anointing, and shoes, and clothes and umbrellas and wood, and root medicines are the last. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was staying in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. In Shravasti, there was another householder who built a temple complete with all necessities and offered it to a group of many monks. He and sixty attendants entered the summer retreat there. Having emerged from the retreat, they used it together, and attendants from whatever regions and directions they resided in, arrived to prostrate at his feet. They prostrated at his feet and then departed. He (the householder) said to those with life, "I, the householder named so-and-so, invite you, please reside here." They replied, "Khenpo (Abbot), we will." He said, "Then stay and have some food today." They replied, "We will come carrying food and utensils, and we will visit you." He said, "Okay, do so." Then they left carrying food and utensils. Similarly, some brought lamp oil, some brought foot oil, some brought shoes, some brought clothes, some brought umbrellas, some brought wood, some brought roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruit medicines. Before long, the temple was filled with utensils, and those monks were where the householder was

Having run out, he left. The householder said, "Householder, your supplies are exhausted." Then (the householder) said, "Venerable, there are few monks here and many offerings are made. Why are they used up so quickly?" After they explained in detail, he said, "Venerable, I offered them for those who live here. Why should they be used elsewhere when they live elsewhere?" Thus, he pointed out their faults. After this happened, the monks reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said, "Monks, it is wrong to slander that benefactor. Therefore, monks, do not live elsewhere and use what others have brought. Monks, if you live elsewhere and use what belongs to others, repay everything you have used according to its value." This is the fourth verse of the Sutra of the Single Gate, Chapter Four. In short, signs and also manifest signs, patterns and those with drawings, low beds with legs with drawings, sword teeth called summer houses. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was residing in Jeta's Grove in Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. In Shravasti, two brothers became monks. One of them lived in the residence of Sheltas. One was in Jeta's Grove. At some point, Sheltas went to the village of Ribrag for some business. That monk divided the robes to see his brother and went to him. He put his personal share in the portion of the Sangha, and then sat down talking. Then he made a mistake and put on a robe of the Sangha and left. Then Sheltas came back and saw a small robe there. He said, "Venerable, has the Sangha's gain been completed?" He said, "The Sangha has not gained anything. Whose robe is this? These are the Sangha's." He said, "Ours is big, this is small. Has anyone come here wearing a robe? My brother came here." Go and ask. He went and asked, and when he looked, it was the Sangha's. He said, "I made a mistake, I took the Sangha's, mine should be there." He took that and came. After this happened, the monks reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One
