That's okay. Is it okay for monks and laypeople to sit together on a bench with a cushion? No, it's not okay. But if such a situation arises, then it's okay. Even if partitions are put up, it's not okay, but if such a situation arises, even if partitions are put up, it's the same. Similarly, a novice monk and a new monk, until they reside separately, similarly, until there is no fault in their residence, if they live together, they will incur a transgression. Is it okay for two monks who are giving precepts to sit together on one cushion? Upali, that is not okay. The fifth verse of the Sutra of the Three Solitary Doors. The Vinaya Commentary, Volume Forty-Two. In short, not standing up and one bed, being busy is also the same, being slightly busy and grass and trees also belong to the Sangha. When the Buddha Bhagavan was dwelling in the Jeta Grove of Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti, the monks were sitting on beds cooking, and the Six Groups of monks were also sitting there hindering them. They were busy getting up and hindering them. The monks reported this to the Bhagavan, and the Bhagavan instructed: Monks, do not make the monks who are cooking and busy stand up. If they stand up, they will incur a transgression. The origin of the matter is in Shravasti, when the monks were eating and sitting, the Six Groups of monks said to treat them like old men, making them stand up. The monks were unable to stand up. The Bhagavan instructed: Sit like old men. The Bhagavan instructed: Sit like old men. Later, the Six Groups of monks came and made the earlier monks stand up to eat, and the Bhagavan instructed: A monk should not make a monk who is eating and busy stand up, but should sit separately. If they stand up, they will incur a transgression. The venerable Upali asked the Buddha Bhagavan: Venerable, under what circumstances are monks considered to be busy eating? The Bhagavan instructed: Little

Or turnips, or coriander, or radishes could also be distributed. The Blessed One instructed the monks not to interrupt while eating. The six groups of monks, because of their seniority, would sit down first and deliberately interrupt while eating. The Blessed One instructed: Monks, do not sit out of order and interrupt while eating. If you do so, it constitutes a transgression. Monks, be skilled in the order of seating. Otherwise, it constitutes a transgression. The sangha's dyeing pots and basins were taken by the monks to dye robes, and the six groups of monks said: Venerable ones, we are older, we have the right to use them first. Having said this, they would fill them with dye and take them away, and the monks were interrupted. The monks reported this matter to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One instructed: Monks, do not take the pots or basins when they are being used, but take them after the work is finished. The Blessed One instructed the monks not to take the pots or basins when they are being used. The six groups of monks deliberately soiled the vessels with a small amount of dye and then put them down. The Blessed One instructed: Pour all the dye into one vessel and take it when needed. Monks should not soil the vessels with a small amount of dye and leave them. If you leave them, it constitutes a transgression. The origin of the story is in Shravasti, where the householder Anathapindika surrounded the Jeta Grove with trees, and the householders were cutting and taking them away. The Blessed One instructed: You should admonish them not to cut them down. They listened to the admonishment and even threw away the trees and grass. Those things were wasted, and the Blessed One instructed: Those that cannot be used should be piled up in the garbage heap, and the remainder should be offered for new construction. The six groups of monks cut down the trees that could be used for new construction and burned them to dye robes. The Blessed One instructed: Do not burn the trees that can be used for new construction. If you burn them, it constitutes a transgression. The end of the Third Chapter on Single Doors.

The sixth chapter. In summary, the decoration for the benefactor of the orphans should not include accepting seats. Utensils should be held in hand, and shoes should also be placed outside. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was residing in Jeta's Grove in Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. Then, the householder Anathapindika said to the Bhagavan, "If the Bhagavan permits, I would like to offer Jeta's Grove." The Bhagavan instructed: "Householder, I permit you to offer it." Therefore, whatever trees are named with masculine names, decorate them with masculine ornaments; whatever trees are named with feminine names, decorate them with feminine ornaments. The monks did not know what to do, so the monks reported to the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan instructed: "Ask the householder." They asked the householder, and the householder said: "Venerable ones, do as it is offered." Thus, the monks reported to the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan instructed: "Whatever trees are named with masculine names, and whatever trees are named with feminine names, collect their ornaments separately, make them into bundles, and place them there. In the autumn season, also decorate them in the same way. Use the walls as tools for painting. Do new construction for the walls and pillars of the warming room. Use the land there as a lamp for the Sangha. Do new construction for the walls and pillars of the infirmary. Use the land there as tools for medicine. Do new construction for the walls and pillars of the refectory. Use the land there as alms for the Sangha. Do new construction for the walls and pillars of the well.
