I went to where the sister of Fire-born (Me-skyes) was, and after arriving, I opened the lock and said, 'Virtuous woman, come here! Pay homage to the feet of the Tathagata!' She thought, 'This person is deceiving me.' So she spoke slowly with compassionate words, 'If I am deceived and killed by an evil friend, what can I rely on?' That person told the virtuous woman the truth, saying, 'Reliance is not like that. The Bhagavan has not been killed, and now you cannot go to see the Bhagavan, but now I will take you!' After that, the wife of Shri-hidden (Dpal-sbyed) arose with joy, and with a satisfied mind, she took Shri-hidden to where the Bhagavan was, and after arriving, she bowed her head at the feet of the Bhagavan, and reported to the Bhagavan in this way, 'Venerable one, please forgive! This householder was deceived by an unwholesome friend, so he did such unwholesome things to the Bhagavan.' After that, the Bhagavan extended his right hand, which resembled an elephant's trunk, and said, 'Householder, come here, I forgive you. The Tathagata makes no distinction between friends and enemies. The Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One, makes no distinction between friends and enemies, treating sandalwood and axes the same.' After that, the householder Shri-hidden arose with great joy towards the Tathagata, and with a devout mind said to the Bhagavan, 'Please stay a little while, Bhagavan, I will prepare the alms food immediately.' The Bhagavan instructed, 'Householder, it is time to invite the Tathagata, and the alms food of Gautama (Gau-ta-ma) is also prepared.' If you say, 'Hey! Gautama, please know the time.' Why do you say this now?' He reported, 'Venerable one, because with a mind to look at evil friends, with the sin of going to three wrong views, I leaned towards him, prevented the two places of going to all suffering, and entered in order to harm the Bhagavan.' The Bhagavan instructed, 'Householder, the Tathagata is free from all harm, why would you harm me?' Venerable one, I used poisoned food and...

Having mixed it in the cream, he said, "First, poison those men." The Blessed One said, "Householder, if one thoroughly vomits out and abandons the poison of desire, the poison of hatred, and the poison of delusion, what worse poison is there than that? Bring what you have poisoned!" Then the Blessed One sat down on the seat that was spread out before the Sangha of monks. Having sat down, he said to the venerable Ānanda, "Ānanda, go and tell the monks, 'Until the sound of 'old age assembly' is uttered, let no one eat food, guard the door!'" Then the venerable Ānanda said to the monks, "Venerable ones, the Blessed One has commanded, 'Until the sound of 'old age assembly' is uttered, let no one eat food.'" Then the Sangha of monks sat down comfortably. Having received the food, by means of magical powers, illusions, and transformations, the sound of 'old age assembly' was uttered in the house of Śrīgupta, and the food and drink became free of poison. Śrīgupta, distributing the food and drink with apprehension, thought, "From the old to the young, now these old monks will surely be felled by the sharp poison." From the young back to the old, he thought again. His mind arose in that way. He thought, "The Blessed One has abandoned the poison of desire, hatred, and delusion, but not all the Śrāvakas have." Thus, when all the monks had eaten, not one was harmed. Even the children who ate the leftovers were not harmed. Then the householder Śrīgupta's faith grew more and more. He and his wife offered food to the Blessed One. Knowing that the Blessed One had taken out his bowl and washed his hands, he took a low seat and sat before the Blessed One to listen to the Dharma. Then the Blessed One, knowing the thoughts, habits, faculties, and nature of Śrīgupta and his wife, taught them the Dharma in such a way that they would thoroughly understand the Four Noble Truths. The householder Śrīgupta heard this.
