Thinking this, he agreed. Then, the householder Fire-born invited them and left. Then, the householder Fire-born prepared very delicious food and drinks that night. The next morning, he got up early, and after getting up, he spread out the seats, filled the bowls with clean water, and then announced the time of invitation to the Pūrṇas: Hey, Pūrṇas, the alms are ready, please know the time! They, namely Dongwa and Babé, came to that place and said: Holy Pūrṇas, the Shramana Gautama has gone to the householder's house, and when he entered, he stepped on the threshold of the door and showed a smile. Then, the Shravaka named Ānanda, bared one shoulder of his upper garment, knelt on his right knee, put his palms together and said: The Tathagata and the Tathagata's Shravakas do not smile without cause or condition, Venerable, what is the cause and condition that makes you smile? He also said: Ānanda, it is so. It is so, Ānanda, the Tathagata and the Tathagata's Shravakas do not show a smile without cause or condition, just as he prophesied according to his own thoughts. 回到家后，户主火生站在门槛上，像马一样大笑。其中一个裸体者走到他脚边问道：世尊，您这样高尚的人不会无缘无故地微笑。尊者回答说：哎呀！在离车河边，一只公猴看到一只母猴，对她产生了强烈的爱意，心想我要爬到那母猴身上，于是跑了过去，结果从树顶上摔下来死了。当时我心想：这个众生因欲望而遭受巨大的痛苦啊！话音刚落，户主火生听到了，心想：这个外道子就像卖针的人又到打铁匠家卖针一样。我应该戏弄他一下。当时，那些拿着棍子的人都安乐地坐着。户主用干净而吉祥的食物装满碗，并在上面放上蔬菜。但对于外道子一个人，他在碗底放上蔬菜，上面盖上米饭。其他裸体者都在吃东西，而外道子心想：毫无疑问，他这是专门针对我。他认为他给我提供了美味的蔬菜和食物。当蔬菜快要分完时，他心想：他一定是忙忘了，我应该提醒他。于是他叫道：户主，我这里只有米饭，没有蔬菜啊！户主再次用偈颂说道：看不见的能看见，能看见的却看不见。看见了离车河边的猴子，却没看见碗里的蔬菜。外道子也看着他的脸。户主指着碗底的蔬菜说：外道子，你看见了离车河边的猴子，却没有看见碗里的蔬菜。外道子心想：他让我感到羞愧，无论如何，他都在赞美布施的功德，而这既不能利益今生，也不能利益来世。当他这样想的时候，火生知道他感到羞愧，于是赞美布施的功德。

After returning home, the householder Fire-born stood on the doorstep, laughing like a horse. One of the naked ones approached his feet and asked: World Honored One, such a noble person as you would not smile without a cause. The venerable one replied: Alas! On the bank of the Lichchavi River, a male monkey saw a female monkey and developed a strong affection for her, thinking, I will climb on that female monkey, and ran towards her, but fell from the top of a tree and died. At that time, I thought: This sentient being suffers greatly because of desire! As soon as these words came out of his mouth, the householder Fire-born heard them and thought: This heretic son is like a needle seller going to the blacksmith's house to sell needles again. I should tease him a little. At that time, those who were holding sticks were all sitting comfortably. The householder filled a bowl with clean and auspicious food and placed vegetables on top. But for the heretic son alone, he placed vegetables at the bottom of the bowl and covered it with rice. The other naked ones were eating, and the heretic son thought: Without a doubt, he is targeting me specifically. He thinks he is providing me with delicious vegetables and food. When the vegetables were almost finished, he thought: He must have forgotten in his haste, I should remind him. So he called out: Householder, I only have rice here, there are no vegetables! The householder then spoke again in verse: What is unseen is seen, but what should be seen is not seen. He saw the monkey on the bank of the Lichchavi River, but not the vegetables in the bowl. The heretic son also looked at his face. The householder pointed to the vegetables at the bottom of the bowl and said: Heretic son, you saw the monkey on the bank of the Lichchavi River, but you did not see the vegetables in the bowl. The heretic son thought: He has made me feel ashamed, in any case, he is praising the merit of giving, which will not benefit either this life or the next. As he thought this, Fire-born knew that he was feeling ashamed, and praised the merit of giving.
