Furthermore, it was said, "It is amazing that the Blessed One said that birth is followed by death!" Great King, it is indeed so. It is indeed so, the end of life for all sentient beings, all living creatures, and all beings is death. Since they ultimately face death, there is no one who is born who does not die. Great King, even those kshatriyas of great and high lineage, those brahmins of great and high lineage, and those householders of great and high lineage, the end of their life is death. Since they ultimately face death, there is no one who is born who does not die. Again, Great King, even those kings who have been invested with royal power from the crown of their heads, who have dominion over many people and have attained diligence, who have even subdued and dwell in the center of the great earth, the end of their life is death. Since they ultimately face death, there is no one who is born who does not die. Great King, even those who, having renounced kingship, live as hermits, eating fruits that fall naturally, and living on roots and fruits, the end of their life is death. Since they ultimately face death, there is no one who is born who does not die. Great King, even those long-lived gods, endowed with beauty, dwelling in lofty immeasurable palaces, will depart from that place and be subject to the law of death and transmigration. Great King, even those arhats who have exhausted defilements, accomplished what was to be done, laid down the burden, attained their own benefit, exhausted the bonds of existence, and are liberated in mind through the correct teaching, their bodies will also be subject to decay. Again, Great King, even those solitary buddhas, like rhinoceroses, who are tamed alone, pacified alone, and freed from sorrow alone, their bodies will also be subject to decay. Great King, even the body of the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, endowed with the ten powers, fearless in the four fearlessnesses, the supreme among beings, who roars the lion's roar, will also be subject to decay. Great King, understand that all such forms are thus. The end of life for all sentient beings, all living creatures, and all beings is death, and ultimately they will face death.

Because there is no one who does not die after being born, the end of life for all sentient beings is death. Just as the deeds done, they will become the fruits of merit and sin. Sinful deeds lead to falling into hell, while meritorious deeds lead to ascending to heaven. Some, through meditating on the path, attain nirvana without outflows. Buddhas, Pratyekabuddhas, and the Shravakas of the Buddha, all abandon their bodies, what need is there to mention ordinary people? Then, King Pasenadi of Kosala, greatly rejoiced at the words spoken by the Blessed One and rejoiced after. He bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One and, having departed from the presence of the Blessed One, went to his own home. When he saw the queen's bed empty, he was again disturbed by the grief of the death of his beloved, and he said to the ministers: 'Alas, seeing this bed, I feel greatly displeased, go and offer this to the noble Sangha.' They also offered this to the noble Sangha in Jeta Grove. The monks spread it out in the gatehouse and left it there. Then, one day later, the king came to the monastery and saw it, and he wept. The ministers said: 'Because the noble ones did not want you to see this and be saddened, they offered it away, and now it is spread out in the gatehouse, that itself has become an object of fault.' They remained silent without saying anything. The monks reported this to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One instructed: 'Do not spread it in the gatehouse, spread it on the upper floor.' But that also became an object of fault. The Blessed One instructed: 'Do not spread it on the upper floor, spread it in the dwelling.' When it was spread in the dwelling, the unbelievers slandered, saying: 'The queen's bed has certainly been sold and eaten by the monks. It was visible before, but now it is not visible.' The Blessed One instructed: 'On the eighth or fourteenth day, spread it on the upper floor and leave it there.' The unbelievers saw it and said: 'This is not the bed of a goddess, the monks have certainly sold it and eaten it.' The monks reported this to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One instructed: King Pasenadi of Kosala.
