The sound of "e" spread everywhere. Having heard that, many merchants from Mandaka went to the Kosala country with goods. People from the Kosala country also went to Mandaka in the same way. Later, when many merchants from Mandaka went to the Kosala country with goods, when they crossed the border and arrived in the Kosala country, the caravan leader said: 'It is said that King Pasenadi of Kosala is very rude, cruel, and angry, and is brave and powerful. If he destroys many merchants and us, he can also make amends. Take those goods back.' The merchants said: 'If that's the case, we will do so.' Having said that, they took the goods back. The thieves set up guard posts to watch, and the guard saw the goods returning and said: 'The goods have returned, let us destroy these merchants.' Having said that, many merchants went to the Sal tree forest and were destroyed. Some of the merchants were killed, and some fled. The fleeing people dirtied their heads with dust and went to the residence of King Pasenadi, saying: 'Oh God, we are merchants, but when we arrive in your country, we are no longer merchants. What happened? Oh God, we were destroyed by thieves.' King Pasenadi ordered Saint Heaven, saying: 'Young man, quickly go and seize the thieves and the property, and bring them back.' The god said: 'I will do so.' Then, General Saint Heaven, having received the order from King Pasenadi of Kosala, led four divisions of troops, including elephant soldiers, cavalry, chariot soldiers, and infantry, fully armed, and quickly went to the Sal tree forest. Meanwhile, the thieves had entered the dense Sal tree forest in the forest and were leisurely distributing the property. Saint Heaven rushed towards them, and they killed some of the thieves, some fled, and some were captured alive. Then, they defeated the thieves, and taking the thieves and the stolen property, they went to the king's residence, knelt at his feet, and said: 'Oh God, these are'

Saying, "It's the thief's property!" the king admonished the merchants, "Hey, identify which of these are your own properties and take them back." At that time, the non-Buddhist wanderers and the monks were also included among those who had been robbed, and the king returned all the robbed property to them. The wanderers dyed their own clothes in the dyeing vat, and the monks' clothes were also taken. The monks did not recognize the clothes dyed in the dyeing vat, and they quarreled with those wanderers. Many wanderers took those clothes, and then went to the king and said, "O Lord, our clothes have been dyed in the dyeing vat by the non-Buddhist wanderers, and they refuse to return them to us." The king summoned those non-Buddhist wanderers and said, "Why did you take the clothes of the noble ones? Return them quickly!" They said, "O Lord, these clothes dyed in the dyeing vat are ours." The king said, "Noble ones, identify which ones are yours and take them." The monks took them out one by one to look, and some recognized them and said, "O Lord, these are our clothes." The king said to the non-Buddhist wanderers, "Alas, non-Buddhist wanderers, if you steal secretly, aren't you thieves? You are great thieves!" They were speechless and could not say a word. The king said, "Hey, noble ones, from now on, you should mark your Dharma robes." The monks told the Blessed One about this, and the Blessed One said, "Monks, the king is right. Therefore, the Dharma robes should have marks, be sewn with gaps and patches, and have buttons attached." The Blessed One said to put on marks, but the monks did not know how to do it. The Blessed One said, "Make ink dots on the edge of the Dharma robe." The origin of this story is that while in Shravasti: At that time, in Shravasti, another householder took a wife who was of the same caste but younger than him, and enjoyed playing and rejoicing with her.

After that, they indulged in pleasures together, and later, the wife became pregnant. After eight or nine months, she gave birth to a boy and held a grand birth celebration for twenty-one days. They named the child according to family tradition and raised him. Later, his mother passed away. That householder took another wife and indulged in pleasures with her. After indulging in pleasures, later three more sons were born, and they were also named according to family tradition. Like this, among enemies, the fighting was very intense. That stepmother always tormented the eldest son born when his mother hadn't died. He didn't remember his mother, became weary, and left his homeland, ordaining in the well-spoken Vinaya. After that, the householder became ill. He was treated with medicines made from roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits, but his illness did not improve. Knowing that he would not live long due to the suffering of illness, he gathered the neighbors and said to his sons, "Children, your eldest brother has already ordained among the sons of the Shakya, you should also give him a share of the property." Having said that, he said: All accumulation will eventually be exhausted, The end of height is falling, The end of meeting is separation, The end of Dharma is peace. He became endowed with the Dharma of the times. That son who was enjoying himself heard that his father had passed away. He thought, "I should go and comfort my mother and brothers, and go to preach the Dharma to them." Thinking this, he enjoyed himself for a while, and then left the place where he was in Shravasti. He traveled gradually, and after arriving in Shravasti, he rested from the journey and came to his own home. The people inside saw him and cried. The neighbors heard the sound of crying and gathered together, some crying out loud, some sitting with tears in their eyes. Each person was sorrowful due to being separated from their relatives because of attachment.
