That kind of lineage is worthy of giving. Why is that? If a son of good family serves his parents according to the Dharma, it is worthy of giving. Monks, in whatever lineage parents are truly pleased, truly offered to, and truly served and honored with comfort, that lineage is with fire. Why is that? If a son of good family serves his parents according to the Dharma, it is like fire. Monks, in whatever lineage parents are truly pleased, truly offered to, and truly served and honored with comfort, that lineage is with the gods. Why is that? If a son of good family serves his parents according to the Dharma, he will become like a god. The Blessed One thus instructed, and the Sugata, having spoken thus, the Teacher spoke again: Father and mother are Brahma, the teacher is also like a god. Just like the fire god's servant, is the place of a son's giving. Therefore, those two should be worshiped, should be served and washed, and also the two feet should be washed. Thus, the wise should serve and honor. Or food and drink, clothing and bedding are also like that. If the wise serve and honor those two parents, here they will not suffer, and after death they will be reborn in the heavens and rejoice. When the Blessed One spoke the Sutra, the monks arose with doubts, and in order to cut off all doubts, they asked the Buddha, the Blessed One: Venerable One, Blessed One, it is very wonderful that you praise the merits of serving parents and teachers! The Blessed One replied: Monks, what is so wonderful about this? Now the Tathagata has no desire, no hatred, no delusion, no birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, displeasure, and strife, yet he praises the merits of serving parents, because in the past I was still with desire, with hatred, with delusion, with birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, displeasure, and strife, and when I was not completely liberated from these, I also slightly

Having done a little bad, one experiences great suffering afterwards. Having done a little good, one also experiences great happiness afterwards. Keep these things well in mind, and I shall tell a story. In the past, monks, in the city of Varanasi in the past, there was a captain named Friend, who was rich, had much wealth, enjoyed much, and lived in a large and spacious place, like the wealth of a lazy person, comparable to the wealth of a lazy person. He took a wife of equal status, and together with her, he enjoyed all kinds of entertainment. He enjoyed all kinds of entertainment with her, and although sons were born, they died, and he was without a son. Desiring a son, he prayed to thousands of gods, such as the god Gulang, the god Varuna, the lazy god, and the god Vasava, but his son did not live. Another person said to him, if a son is born to you, give him a girl's name, and he will live long. One night after that, he enjoyed all kinds of entertainment with her. Having enjoyed all kinds of entertainment, his wife became pregnant, and after eight or nine months, she gave birth to a boy. That boy was handsome, beautiful to look at, beautiful, with a complexion like gold, a head like an umbrella, long arms, a broad forehead, a long nose, even eyebrows, a high nose, and all limbs and appendages complete. To celebrate his birth, a great birth celebration was held, and they began to give him a name. Because the son of Friend was given a girl's name, this boy was named Friend Girl. When the boy named Friend Girl grew up, his father also entered the great ocean and died there. After that, Friend Girl said to her mother, "Mother, what kind of karma did my father live on in the past? I will do the same later." The mother thought, "If I tell him that he was a merchant who entered the great ocean in the past, then he will also enter the great ocean and die there." So she said, "Child, your father used to sell grain in the past, and if you like, you can also sell grain." Then he

He built a shop. On the first day, he earned four karshapanas, and he gave them to his mother. Later, another person said to him, "Your father used to sell incense." He gave up selling grain and built an incense shop. Then, on the first day, he earned eight karshapanas, and he gave them to his mother again. Later, another person said to him, "Your father is a gold merchant." He gave up selling incense again and started selling gold. On the first day, he earned sixteen karshapanas, and he gave them to his mother again. The next day, he earned thirty-two karshapanas, and he gave them to his mother. Later, those jealous goldsmiths thought, "This guy is collecting all the gold in the city." They said to a young woman, "You live like this, is it okay? If your father used to be a merchant who went to the great ocean, who let you engage in such a bad life?" He was motivated by the words of those goldsmiths and went to his mother, saying, "Mother, if I hear that my father used to be a merchant of the great ocean, I will regret it. I will also enter the great ocean." The mother said to him, "Son, that is true, but you are young and the only son. Abandoning me and entering the great ocean, those who believe (they will go) will go." He declared himself the captain. Then, surrounded by five hundred merchants, he set off. The mother was heartbroken by the loss of her son, and with tears in her eyes, she grabbed his feet and said, "Son, abandoning me and entering the great ocean, those who believe (they will go) will go." He declared himself the captain. Then, surrounded by five hundred merchants, he set off. The mother was heartbroken by the loss of her son, and with tears in her eyes, she grabbed his feet and said, "Son, abandoning me and entering the ocean, don't go!" He was so pitifully pleading, but he was unhappy, and because the mother spoke slowly, he angrily kicked his mother's head with his foot, and then he left with many guests. The mother said, "May this action not bring you good fortune."
