They rot, leak, accumulate, act like conch enemies, those who are not monks consider themselves monks, those who are not celibate consider themselves celibate. Therefore, monks, do not act like foxes like lions. If you do, you will disappear with the past. The Blessed One admonished, do not act like foxes like lions. While in Shravasti, another householder took a wife of the same lineage as himself, and he enjoyed playing and rejoicing with her. After enjoying playing and rejoicing, after some time, the wife became pregnant, and after eight or nine months, she gave birth to a son, who was well-formed, pleasing to look at, beautiful, and endowed with all limbs, and a great birth celebration was held for him, and he was named. He was raised and grew up, and after some time, he went to Jeta Grove, and having become ordained in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, he became endowed with the three baskets. He thought to himself, the Blessed One said, monks, the parents of sons are difficult to repay, they are beneficial, nourishing, procreating, nursing, and showing the various Jambudvipa. If a son carries his mother on one shoulder and his father on the other for a full hundred years, or if he makes them rulers or lords of the great earth filled with jewels, pearls, lapis lazuli, conch shells, crystals, gold, silver, asmagarbha, coral, and right-spiraling conch shells, even then the son will not repay the kindness of his father and mother or come close to repaying their kindness. But whoever causes his unbelieving parents to be endowed with perfect faith, or correctly exhorts, subdues, guides, and establishes them, or causes those with bad morality to be endowed with perfect morality, those who are miserly to be endowed with perfect generosity, and those with corrupt wisdom to be endowed with perfect wisdom, correctly exhorts, subdues, guides, and establishes them, such a person will repay the kindness of his father and mother, or come close to repaying their kindness. Thinking thus, how should I treat my parents?

He built a bathhouse, and that householder himself engaged in labor in his own bathhouse, becoming very tired, and much bathing equipment, oil, flour, and so on remained. Then he said, "Son, I am very tired, please massage my back a little." He said, "Father, the Blessed One has taught that one should not serve those who are like foxes as if they were lions," and therefore did not grant it. He said, "Son, what is a lion and what is a fox?" He said, "Father, I am like a lion, and you are like a fox." The son asked, "Why is that?" The father said, "I am endowed with morality, and you are endowed with bad morality." The son said, "From someone like me who is like a fox, was someone like you who is like a lion born?" Monks reported this matter to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One taught, "Monks, in whatever family they make their parents truly happy, truly honor them, and truly care for them in comfort, that family is with Brahma. Why is that? Because a son of a family treats his parents in accordance with the Dharma, acting in accordance with the proper way, this is called Brahma. Monks, in whatever family they make their parents truly happy, truly honor them, and truly attend to them in comfort, that family is with the teacher. Why is that? Because a son of a family who treats his parents in accordance with the Dharma becomes like a teacher.
