And, faithful Brahmins and householders offered blankets, mattresses, and fine cloths. The monks were doubtful and did not accept them. They said, "Venerable ones, when the Buddha, the Blessed One, does not appear in the world, we heretics are the objects of offerings. Now that the Buddha, the Blessed One, has appeared in the world, you are the objects of offerings. If you do not accept, how will we go to the next world without the merchandise of merit?" They said this, but those people said nothing. The monks reported this to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said, "Monks, what the faithful Brahmins and householders say is true. Therefore, I allow you to accept them. Consecrate the short-haired ones as extra garments, and consecrate and keep the long-haired ones as the property of the donors." The sixth verse of the third chapter of the "Door of Discussion" is completed. In short: The stupa of hair and nails, White-colored butter lamp, Houses and butter lamp vessels, Wool, cattle, nuns, and stables. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Park. The Blessed One said, "In that case, householder, I allow you to build it." So, in a spacious place, together with friends, brothers, and relatives, he held a grand ceremony and built a stupa for the hair and nails of the Blessed One, but because it was not plastered with lime, it was not beautiful, and people were not pleased to see it. He went again to the Blessed One and bowed his head at his feet.

After reporting this, the Blessed One said: "Since that is so, householder, I allow you, plaster it with lime." He plastered it with lime and made offerings with fragrance, incense, and flowers. At night, without lamps, it became unsightly, so he went to where the Blessed One was, prostrated with his head at the feet of the Blessed One, and reported this to the Blessed One: "Oh, Blessed One, I have plastered the stupa of the Blessed One's hair and nails with lime and made offerings with fragrance, unguents, and flowers, but at night there are no oil lamps, and it becomes unsightly. If the Blessed One allows, I will make offerings to the stupa of the Blessed One's hair and nails and light a string of oil lamps at night." The Blessed One said: "Since that is so, householder, I allow you, make offerings to it, and at night light a string of oil lamps on top of the stupa of hair and nails."
