It becomes the cause of not being universally united, not the cause of being universally united. It becomes the cause of complete purification, not the cause of universal affliction. It becomes the cause of not being greedy, not the cause of being greedy. It becomes the cause of being content, not the cause of not being content. It becomes the cause of being easily satisfied, not the cause of being difficult to satisfy. It becomes the cause of being easily nourished, not the cause of being difficult to nourish. Regarding these, you should know very clearly that this is the Dharma, this is the Vinaya, this is what the Teacher taught. Just as it was said to Gautami, the great mother of beings, so should the Sutra be spoken. The eighth chapter is complete. Nine places: relying on the Teacher, relying on the Dharma, relying on the Sangha, relying on the disciplinarian, relying on the preceptor, relying on the Lama, relying on the place, relying on the person, and relying on the place. Nine unreasonable places: it is unreasonable for an Arhat, a destroyer of outflows, to knowingly separate a living being from life; taking what is not given; engaging in impure conduct, relying on the Dharma of sexual intercourse; knowingly speaking falsehoods; desiring and eating impure things; knowingly transgressing the precepts; abandoning the precepts and falling away; seeking another teacher outside of this; and believing in purification through divination and omens, not through actions, these are unreasonable. Nine desired objects: this desires to harm me, desires to be unfavorable to me, desires to be unpleasant to me, does not desire to have happiness, desires not to have pleasure. This has harmed me, is harming me, will harm me, thinking these, he goes to harm him. Whoever desires to harm me, desires to be unfavorable to me, desires to be unpleasant to me, does not desire happiness, does not desire to have pleasure, this does not desire to harm, desires to benefit, desires to be happy, desires to have happiness, desires to be happy in happiness, this has not harmed him, does not harm, will not harm, thinking this, he goes to harm him. Whoever desires not to harm me, desires to benefit

Pa. Wanting happiness, wanting to have happiness, wanting to have joy, one desires to harm that person, desires them to have no benefit, desires them to be unhappy, desires them not to have happiness, desires them not to have joy, and harms them. The nine ways of subduing harm are: This person desires to harm me, desires me to have no benefit, desires me to be unhappy, desires me not to have happiness, desires me not to have joy, this person has harmed me, is harming me, will harm me, thinking thus, he causes that harm to increase and destroys it again. Furthermore, the one who desires to harm me, desires me to have no benefit, desires me to be unhappy, desires me not to have happiness, desires me not to have joy, I do not desire to harm that person, I desire them to have benefit, I desire them to be happy, I desire them to have happiness, I desire them to have joy, therefore, I have not harmed them, will not harm them, and will not harm them, thinking thus, he thinks like this: May I become like this! If not like this, how can I obtain from others? Thinking thus, he causes that harm to increase and destroys it again. Furthermore, the one who does not desire to harm me, desires me to have benefit, desires me to have happiness, desires me to have joy, I desire to harm that person, I desire them to have no benefit, I desire them not to have happiness, I desire them not to have joy, this person has harmed me, is harming me, will harm me, thinking thus, he also thinks like this: May I become like this! May I not become like this! If not like this, how can I obtain from others? Thinking thus, he causes that harm to increase and destroys it again. The ninth (subduing) is complete. In short, non-subduing has two aspects, and subduing also has three aspects: giving and gathering should be done, and qualities are the last (subduing). The ten non-subduings are the ten paths of non-virtuous actions: killing, taking what is not given, sexual misconduct, lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, idle chatter, malice, covetousness, and wrong view. Furthermore, the ten non-subduings are the ten branches of the wrong path: wrong view, wrong thought, wrong speech, wrong action, wrong livelihood, wrong effort, wrong mindfulness, wrong
