The gains from tribal stipulations, the gains from individual stipulations, the gains that have become manifest, and the gains that are separate, there are eight. Like the mother's abode, there are eight causes for determining the removal, namely, the past, holding, thinking of not coming again, having heard, hearing, having crossed the boundary, having despaired, and the work of praying. There are eight types of shoes that a monk should not wear, namely, shoes made of Kusa grass, shoes made of Munja grass, shoes made of Balbaja, shoes made of rice straw, shoes made of bamboo, shoes made of spear grass leaves, and shoes made of wheat straw. Furthermore, there are eight types of shoes that a monk should not wear, namely, shoes made of thread, shoes with sound, shoes made of leather, wooden shoes, shoes made of hemp, shoes made of iron, shoes made of precious stones, and shoes made of bark. The eight worldly dharmas are: gain and no gain, fame and no fame, blame and praise, happiness and suffering. The eight dharmas that cause the Sangha to split are as follows: This is Dharma, this is not Dharma; this is Vinaya, this is not Vinaya; this is an offense, this is not an offense; this is a heavy offense, this is a light offense; this is with remainder, this is without remainder; this is to be confessed, this is to be restrained; this is beyond Vinaya, this is going to wrong speech; this is unwholesome, this is not to be declared. In eight ways, one is blamed for being rootless, namely, resentment, impatience, anger, insubordination, displeasure, difficulty in pleasing, jealousy, and stinginess. In short: When examining a person, debaters and counter-debaters, the dust of the Vinaya and the eight aspects, establish individual liberation. The eight ways of examining a person are: conduct, place of conduct, friendship, friends, livelihood, hearing, bodily actions, and verbal actions. Just as the person is, so also know the debaters and counter-debaters.

Should be done. The perfection of subduing desire through the eight dharmas is the Noble Eightfold Path: right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. Just as the subduing of desire reaches perfection, so too does the subduing of hatred and the subduing of ignorance reach perfection. There are eight kinds of dust-like things: chewable dust-like things, edible dust-like things, drinkable dust-like things, lickable dust-like things, suckable dust-like things, medicine dust-like things, and the dust of dust itself, and so on. There are eight kinds of non-dharmic Pratimoksha establishments: precepts that are degenerated by being done without a root, views that are degenerated, conduct that is degenerated, livelihood that is degenerated; and precepts that are degenerated by not being done without a root, views that are degenerated, conduct that is degenerated, livelihood that is degenerated, and so on. There are eight kinds of dharmic Uposatha establishments: precepts that are degenerated by being done with a root, views that are degenerated, conduct that is degenerated, livelihood that is degenerated; and precepts that are degenerated by not being done with a root, views that are degenerated, conduct that is degenerated, livelihood that is degenerated, and so on. In short: Upali and non-regression, Gautama spoke with Gautami, non-place non-reason, harm and discipline. The venerable Upali said to the Blessed One: "Lord, how should I seek the Dharma and the Vinaya? Please, Blessed One, briefly explain such Dharma to me." The Blessed One said to the venerable Upali: "Upali, whatever Dharma becomes the cause of strife, becomes the cause of exposing faults, becomes the cause of resentment, becomes the cause of dispute, becomes the cause of separate speech, becomes the cause of discordant speech, becomes the cause of non-acceptance, becomes the cause of loss of mindfulness, becomes the cause of turning into many, such Dharma is not the Dharma, it is not the Vinaya, it is not the teaching of the Teacher."

务必彻底领悟!邬波离,凡是成为不争斗之因,不揭人疮疤,不怀恨,不争论,不各说各话,和合而说,聚集,不忘失,成为一体的事物,这些是法,这是律,务必彻底领悟这是导师所教导的!邬波离,这八种情况也是如此。对于未被遮止的,也应从黑白两方面说八种。故事的起因是在舍卫城。当时,乔答弥大 प्रजापती (梵文天城体:महाप्रजापती गौतमी,梵文罗马拟音:Mahāprajāpatī Gautamī,汉语字面意思:大 प्रजापती 乔答弥) 到了世尊所在之处,到达后,以头顶礼世尊之足,然后坐于一旁。坐于一旁后,乔答弥大 प्रजापती (梵文天城体:महाप्रजापती गौतमी,梵文罗马拟音:Mahāprajāpatī Gautamī,汉语字面意思:大 प्रजापती 乔答弥) 对世尊这样禀告道:世尊,我应如何寻求法与律,请为我宣说那样的法吧,这样禀告之后,世尊对乔答弥大 प्रजापती (梵文天城体:महाप्रजापती गौतमी,梵文罗马拟音:Mahāprajāpatī Gautamī,汉语字面意思:大 प्रजापती 乔答弥) 这样说道:乔答弥,凡是成为普遍贪欲之因,而不是普遍无贪欲之因;成为普遍嗔恨之因,而不是普遍无嗔恨之因;成为普遍愚痴之因,而不是普遍无愚痴之因;成为普遍系缚之因,而不是普遍不系缚之因;成为普遍烦恼之因,而不是清净之因;成为大欲之因,而不是不贪大欲之因;成为不知足之因,而不是知足之因;成为难满之因,而不是易满之因;成为难养之因,而不是易养之因。这些不是法,不是律,务必彻底领悟这不是导师所教导的!乔答弥,凡是成为普遍无贪欲之因,而不是普遍贪欲之因;成为普遍无嗔恨之因,而不是普遍嗔恨之因;成为普遍无愚痴之因,而不是普遍愚痴之因;

Be sure to thoroughly understand! Upali, whatever becomes the cause of non-contention, not exposing faults, not bearing grudges, not arguing, not speaking separately, speaking harmoniously, gathering, not losing memory, and becoming one entity, these are Dharma, this is Discipline, be sure to thoroughly understand that this is what the Teacher taught! Upali, the eight are just as they are. For that which is not obstructed, one should also speak of eight aspects in terms of black and white. The basis of the discussion is when he was in Nyen (Shravasti). At that time, Gotami, the great mother of beings, went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, bowed her head at the feet of the Blessed One and sat to one side. Having sat to one side, Gotami, the great mother of beings, said this to the Blessed One: Blessed One, how should I seek Dharma and Discipline? Please explain to me such Dharma. Having said this, the Blessed One said this to Gotami, the great mother of beings: Gotami, whatever Dharma becomes the cause of universal attachment, but is not the cause of universal non-attachment; becomes the cause of universal hatred, but is not the cause of universal non-hatred; becomes the cause of universal delusion, but is not the cause of universal non-delusion; becomes the cause of universal bondage, but is not the cause of universal non-bondage; becomes the cause of universal affliction, but is not the cause of purification; becomes the cause of great desire, but is not the cause of not desiring great desire; becomes the cause of not knowing contentment, but is not the cause of knowing contentment; becomes the cause of being difficult to fill, but is not the cause of being easy to fill; becomes the cause of being difficult to nourish, but is not the cause of being easy to nourish. These are not Dharma, not Discipline, be sure to thoroughly understand that this is not what the Teacher taught! Gotami, whatever Dharma becomes the cause of universal non-attachment, but is not the cause of universal attachment; becomes the cause of universal non-hatred, but is not the cause of universal hatred; becomes the cause of universal non-delusion, but is not the cause of universal delusion;
