Refer to the Vinaya. If it agrees with the Sutra, even if referring to the Vinaya, it does not agree with the Sutra, nor does it come from the Vinaya, and it also contradicts the Dharma nature, then say to that monk: 'As the venerable one says, this Dharma of yours was not spoken by the Blessed One.' Or the venerable one holds this Dharma incorrectly. Therefore, I have checked this Dharma against the Sutra, and also referred to the Vinaya, but it does not agree with the Sutra, nor does it come from the Vinaya, and it also contradicts the Dharma nature, so this is not Dharma, this is not Vinaya, know that this is not what the teacher taught, abandon it!' Close (this door). Furthermore, to the monks, if a monk says this: 'Venerable ones, in the place called so-and-so, there is a large community of monks with elders and holding the Pratimoksha. Venerable ones, I have heard and received directly from those communities of monks, so this is Dharma, this is Vinaya, this is what the teacher taught.' If he says so, that monk should neither agree nor slander, but grasp the words, meanings, and letters, check with the Sutra, and refer to the Vinaya. If it agrees with the Sutra, even if referring to the Vinaya, it does not agree with the Sutra, nor does it come from the Vinaya, and it also contradicts the Dharma nature, then say to the monk: 'Venerable one, you consider the community of monks with elders and holding the Pratimoksha to be Dharma, consider it to be Vinaya, but you say it is neither Dharma nor Vinaya.' Or the venerable one himself holds this Dharma incorrectly. Therefore, these Dharmas are checked against the Sutra, and also referred to the Vinaya, but they do not agree with the Sutra, nor do they come from the Vinaya, and they also contradict the Dharma nature, so this is not Dharma, this is not Vinaya, know that this is not what the teacher taught, abandon it!' Close (this door). Furthermore, if a monk says this: 'Monks, in the place called so-and-so, there are many monks who hold the Sutra, hold the Vinaya, and hold the Matrika. Venerable ones, I have heard and received directly from those monks, so this is Dharma, this is Vinaya, this is what the teacher taught.

After saying that, up to saying this to that monk, it is the same as before. If those venerable monks consider it to be Dharma, consider it to be Vinaya, and say that it is not Dharma, not Vinaya. Or the venerable one himself has wrongly grasped these Dharmas. In this way, if this Dharma is compared with the Sutra Pitaka, and the Vinaya is examined, it does not agree with the Sutra Pitaka, nor does it arise from the Vinaya, and it also contradicts the Dharma nature. Know that this is not Dharma, not Vinaya, not taught by the Teacher, and abandon it. Furthermore, a certain monk says to the monks: Venerable ones, in this dwelling called such and such, there reside monks who are any of the elders among the elders of the monks, and any of the chief monks among the chief monks. I have personally heard from those venerable monks, and personally received it, so this is Dharma, this is Vinaya, this is taught by the Teacher. Up to saying this to the monk, it is the same as before. If the venerable one, any of the elders among the elders, and any of the chief monks among the chief monks, consider this to be Dharma, consider this to be Vinaya, and say that it is not Dharma, not Vinaya. Or the venerable one himself has wrongly grasped this Dharma. From "Know" to "abandon it", it is the same as before. Furthermore, a certain monk says to a certain monk: Venerable one, in this place called such and such, there is a layperson who has faith and belief. Venerable one, I have personally heard from that layperson, and personally received it, so this is Dharma, this is Vinaya, this is taught by the Teacher. Up to saying this to the monk, it is the same as before. If you, venerable one, consider the layperson to be Dharma, consider it to be Vinaya, and say that it is not Dharma, not Vinaya.
