When that female patron returned, she asked as usual whether the meal had been offered. They replied, "Two sons of the venerable one have left, having been offered the meal before leaving." Hearing this, she went to the temple and asked, "Venerable ones, why have you not sent away the monks appointed by the Sangha?" They repeated everything that had happened. She said, "Venerable ones, since that is the case, please distribute the grain that grows in my field to the venerable ones, and please eat it here." They said, "Female patron, we do not need it. Why? Because the Blessed One has not allowed us to accept uncooked grain." She said nothing and remained silent. The monks told the Blessed One what had happened. The Blessed One said, "Since that is the case, allow it. Do not hesitate to accept grain for the sake of the Sangha." The story took place when he was in Shravasti. When he was in Shravasti, another householder built a dwelling for another person and offered many mattresses inside. The monks gathered them together in a large storehouse. That monk said something to the householder, and the householder ridiculed him. The monks told the Blessed One what had happened. The Blessed One said, "Monks, it is wrong to ridicule the householder. Therefore, the mattresses should be used as they were offered, and those who live there have the right to use them." Then, that householder offered many cloths to that dwelling. Because they were to be used for spreading mattresses, they were piled up among the Sangha's possessions. That monk said something to the householder. The householder ridiculed him again. The monks told the Blessed One what had happened. The Blessed One said, "Monks, it is wrong to ridicule the householder. The patron has the right to decide, monks, the possessions in the dwelling are those who live there have the right to use them." They did not give that monk other rewards. The Blessed One said, "Also give him some from those possessions belonging to the Sangha." He also accepted it.

Use it for the land, do not hesitate. The first verse of the Four Doors Sutra from the Introduction. The Vinaya Scripture, Volume Thirty-Six. In short: Wherever one resides, The monk should also be suitable there, The tools for working the land, Food and butter are also suitable. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was residing in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. In Shravasti, another householder built residences in the monastery and offered bedding there. Possessions were also arranged, and the monks placed those bedding in the Sangha, and the possessions were distributed generally. Having done so, the monks reported to the Bhagavan, and the Bhagavan said: Do not move the determined objects. Then, those who are determined to reside there should use those, and the possessions should also belong to them. The monks did not give them other possessions, and the Bhagavan said: Both should be given and used as they please, but how should the monks be arranged in order of seniority? The introduction is in Shravasti. In Shravasti, another householder was residing there, and another almsman went there, took refuge, and established him in the precepts. Later, he also spoke of the merits of the seven things to be done for merit with wealth, and that householder became very faithful, saying: Venerable one, I will also do a little of the merit made with wealth. That almsman said: Householder, do so. Venerable one, what should I do? Build a monastery for the Sangha. Venerable one, I have Kārṣāpaṇa (Sanskrit ancient coin name), but I do not have companions for doing merit. Householder, bring the Kārṣāpaṇa, and I will be your companion for doing merit. He gave the Kārṣāpaṇa and also appointed people to do the land work. He put the Kārṣāpaṇa in the residence and left it there, but did not start any work at all. The householder thought, how much of my monastery has been built? Thinking this, he came there.
