On the ground, if one were to plaster the stupa of the Blessed One's hair and nails with lime and offer incense, unguents, and flowers, but it becomes unsightly at night without lamps, if the Blessed One permits, I will make offerings to the stupa of the Blessed One's hair and nails and light lamps at night, after this request, the Blessed One instructed: Since that is so, householder, I permit you, make offerings to it, and at night light lamps on top of the stupa of hair and nails. Afterwards, the oil dripped down, and the white color of the stupa also became undesirable, he reported this to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One instructed: Place the lamps below. After he placed the lamps below, a dog drank the lamp oil and also took the container. He went again to where the Blessed One was, prostrated at his feet, and reported: Blessed One, I placed the lamps below the stupa of the Blessed One's hair and nails, if dogs seek the oil and also seek the container of lamp oil, please, Blessed One, permit this, and I will make a lamp room, after this request, the Blessed One instructed: Since that is so, householder, I permit you, do so. The Blessed One said: Since it is so, O householder, I allow you to do it. That person made the base, accumulated all the necessary items, and for the stupa of the Blessed One's hair and nails, accumulated friends, brothers, and relatives, and made great offerings. Many people saw this and were very impressed. They developed faith, and they also built stupas of the Blessed One's hair and nails in various places in the same way. Then, the Blessed One stayed in Shravasti for as long as he pleased, and then went to Rajagriha. The Blessed One stayed in the Bamboo Grove of Rajagriha, the place where the Kalandaka birds dwell. King Bimbisara, having received a transfer from the Blessed One, went to Rajagriha. Having heard that the Blessed One was staying in the Bamboo Grove of Rajagriha, the place where the Kalandaka birds dwell, the king, with great power and majesty, together with his queens, princes, ministers, and palace people, went to the place where the Blessed One was. Having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. The Blessed One, knowing his thoughts, habits, dispositions, and nature, taught him such a Dharma that would lead to the realization of the Four Noble Truths. Having heard this, King Bimbisara, together with eighty thousand gods, destroyed the twenty peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, and attained the fruit of stream-entry. Having seen the truth, he, together with eighty thousand gods, would go to see the Blessed One at all three times of the day.
