父母二者是梵天，导师天神亦是如此。犹如火之神仆，是儿子布施之所。因此应当礼敬彼二者，应当服侍并且洗涤，双足也应当洗涤，如是智者应恭敬。或者 饮食与穿着，以及卧具床榻等，对于父母二者，智者若能以恭敬供养，在此不会受苦，往生后将喜悦于天界。世尊宣说经部之时，众比丘生起疑惑，为断除一切疑惑，向佛陀世尊请教：尊者，世尊您宣说侍奉父母和上师的功德，真是太稀奇了！世尊开示说：比丘们，这有什么稀奇的？如今如来已无贪欲、无嗔恨、无愚痴，没有生、老、病、死、忧愁、悲叹、痛苦、不悦和烦恼，却宣说侍奉父母的功德。过去世我仍具贪欲、嗔恨、愚痴，有生、老、病、死、忧愁、悲叹、痛苦、不悦和烦恼，尚未从中解脱时，仅仅对母亲造成些微损害，便感受巨大痛苦；稍作利益，也感受巨大安乐。你们应当好好地、非常仔细地思考这些，我将讲述。过去之事是：比丘们，过去世在波罗奈斯城，有一位名叫“朋友”的商主，他富有且拥有大量财富，享受着丰厚的物质，住所宽广而广阔，如同自在天的财富，与自在天的财富相匹敌。他娶了一位门当户对的妻子，与她一同享受嬉戏娱乐。通过嬉戏娱乐，他生了许多儿子，但都夭折了，因此他没有儿子，因为想要儿子，他向鸠摩罗天、水天、自在天、地天等成千上万的天神祈祷。

Parents are Brahma, and so is the teacher deity. Like a servant of the fire god, they are the object of a son's generosity. Therefore, one should pay homage to them, serve and wash them, and also wash their feet. Thus, the wise should show reverence. Or, Food and drink, clothing, bedding, and mattresses, if the wise offer them with reverence to both parents, they will not suffer here, and upon passing away, they will rejoice in the heavens. When the Blessed One was teaching the Sutra Pitaka, the monks arose with doubts. To dispel all doubts, they asked the Buddha, the Blessed One: Venerable One, it is most wondrous that the Blessed One speaks of the merits of serving one's parents and teachers! The Blessed One replied: Monks, what is so wondrous about this? Now, the Tathagata is without attachment, without hatred, without delusion, without birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, displeasure, and turmoil. Yet, he speaks of the merits of serving one's parents. In the past, when I was still with attachment, hatred, and delusion, with birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, displeasure, and turmoil, and had not yet been completely liberated from them, even causing slight harm to my mother, I experienced great suffering; and by doing a little good, I also experienced great happiness. You should contemplate these things well and very carefully, and I will tell you. In the past, monks, in the past, in the city of Varanasi, there was a merchant named "Friend," who was rich and had much wealth and great possessions. His dwelling was vast and spacious, like the wealth of Ishvara, comparable to the wealth of Ishvara. He took a wife of equal status and enjoyed playing and rejoicing with her. From this play and rejoicing, many sons were born, but they all died, so he had no sons. Because he desired a son, he prayed to thousands of gods, such as Kumara, Varuna, Ishvara, Vasava, and so on.

After he had enjoyed himself to the fullest, his wife became pregnant. After eight or nine months, she gave birth to a boy. He was well-formed, beautiful to look at, handsome, with a complexion like gold, a head like an umbrella, long arms, a broad forehead, a long nose, even eyebrows, a high nose, and complete limbs. A grand celebration was held for his birth, and they began to name him. Because the friend's son was given a girl's name, this boy was named "Girl Friend." Soon, the boy named "Girl Friend" grew up. His father also entered the great ocean and died there. Then, "Girl Friend" said to his mother, "How did my father used to make a living? I will do the same later." The mother thought, "If I tell him that he used to be a merchant who entered the great ocean, he will also enter the great ocean and die there." So she said, "Son, your father used to sell grain. If you like, you can also sell grain." So he built a grain shop. On the first day, he earned four Karshapanas and gave them to his mother. After that, another person told him, "Your father used to sell spices." So he gave up selling grain and built a spice shop. On the first day, he earned eight Karshapanas and gave them to his mother. After that, another person told him, "Your father used to sell gold." So he gave up selling spices and started selling gold.
