After burning, that becomes the object of offense. The Blessed One said: "Outside, smear with a mixture of clay and chaff, and inside, smear with sesame residue or cow dung, and after it dries, sweep the ground clean, and underneath, spread chaff and sesame residue, and other things that become beautiful, cover with grass, dung, and sod, and be sure to burn it without letting the smoke leak out. Knock on its left and right sides, and cover with ashes. Be sure to do it for the sake of the happiness of sentient beings. After burning, take out the bowl and wash it, and burn it until the sky becomes dark. Therefore, the bowl, the burning cover, and the utensils are all allowed." The second verse of the third gate sutra of the topic. In short, mutual assistance and bathhouses, and the third kind of householder are also like that. Mats and hair are also like that. Everything made with dung has been heard. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was residing in the Jetavana Grove of Anathapindika in Shravasti. In Shravasti, another householder built a bathhouse for the Sangha. Then, the Six Groups of monks, covering their lower bodies with only one garment, helped each other work and resided there. Brahmins and householders came to that place, and when they saw it, they said, "Who is doing such a thing?" Some said, "They are heretics." Others said, "These are not heretics, but disciples of Shakyamuni." They began to mock, saying, "The teacher is ashamed, why are these people shameless?" The monks reported this matter to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said, "Monks, the mockery of the Brahmins and householders is justified. Therefore, monks, do not help each other work in the bathhouse wearing only one garment. If monks work in the bathhouse wearing only one garment, they will commit a transgression." The topic occurred in Shravasti. In Shravasti, another householder built a bathhouse for the Sangha.

On the ground, there, the monks smeared themselves with oil, touching their feet to their heads, their heads to their mouths, their mouths to their hands and feet, their hands and feet to their mouths again, and sat covering their lower bodies with ragged clothes. After some time, a non-believing householder came to that direction, and when he saw the monks, he began to revile them, saying: "The sons of the Shakyas are unclean, touching their feet to their mouths, covering their lower bodies with ragged clothes, and sitting naked among the people." The monks reported this to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: "Monks, the reviling of Brahmins and householders is meaningless. Therefore, do not let householders enter the bathhouse, nor let non-believers work there. Appoint monks as doorkeepers of the bathhouse, and do not let them allow householders to enter. The Blessed One said: "Do not let householders enter the bathhouse, nor let them work there." Later, at another time, when about to enter the bathhouse, the householder Anathapindika came there, and the monk doorkeeper said: "Householder, do not go in, please wait here. The Blessed One has said: 'Do not let householders enter the bathhouse.'" He said: "Holy ones, will I also change? I will certainly do the work of the holy ones." The monks reported this to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: "Let those who have faith enter the bathhouse, and let them work there as well, do not hesitate about this." The Blessed One said: "Let those who have faith enter the bathhouse, and let them work there as well." After that, when the householder Anathapindika was about to enter, a Brahmin also came along, and he was not allowed to enter. He said: "Holy one, why is the householder Anathapindika allowed to enter, but not I?" The monk said to him: "Brahmin, the householder Anathapindika is allowed to enter because he has faith." He said: "Then if I also become faithful, will I be allowed to enter?" The monks reported this to the Blessed One.

Upon requesting, the Blessed One instructed, saying, "If that person has faith, let him enter." The monks placed him in the Three Refuges and then let him enter. That person then touched the feet of the monks, and touched their mouths and heads, and seeing them sitting naked with their lower bodies covered with inferior garments, he did not develop faith and began to mock. "The sons of the Shakya are unclean, touching feet, and touching mouths and heads, covering their lower bodies with inferior garments, sitting naked," he said. The monks reported this to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One instructed, saying, "Therefore, let those with great faith enter the bathhouse, and do not let those with little faith enter." The Vinaya Scripture, Volume Thirty-Four. The origin of the story is in Shravasti. In Shravasti, another householder invited the Buddha and the monastic community of monks to the bathhouse. When the monks entered, an Arhat monk was serving a monk who had broken his vows. The Blessed One also entered and, seeing him serving, the Blessed One instructed the monks: "Monks, have you seen this monk serving this monk?" "Venerable one, we have seen it," they replied. The Blessed One replied: "This monk who is serving is an Arhat who has exhausted his defilements. The one being served is one who has broken his vows, possesses sinful qualities, is internally rotten, leaking, accumulating, behaving like an enemy in a charnel ground, a non-ascetic who pretends to be an ascetic, a non-celibate who pretends to be celibate." Therefore, monks, do not act like a lion doing the work of a fox, for if you do, you will be destroyed along with the past. The Blessed One instructed, saying, "Do not act like a lion doing the work of a fox." In Shravasti, another householder married a woman of the same caste but lower status than himself, and he enjoyed playing and rejoicing with her. After he had enjoyed playing and rejoicing with her, after some time, the wife became pregnant, and after eight or nine months, she gave birth to a son, and that son was well-formed, pleasing to look at, beautiful, and with limbs...
