They said, "Why are you sitting around without stopping them from arguing?" Others said, "If they are fighting, why should we stop them?" They were speechless and sat in silence. After this happened, the monks reported it to the Blessed One. The Blessed One instructed them, "You should stop those who are arguing and not stopping." Even if they are stopped, they cannot be made to stop. After this happened, the monks reported it to the Blessed One. The Blessed One instructed them, "If even stopping them cannot make them stop, then take the action of expulsion." The Blessed One instructed, "Take the action of expulsion." Later, two monks were engaged in a definitive conversation. The two of them said, "This is attainable, this is attainable." When they were saying definitive things, they spoke harshly to each other. The monks also took the action of expulsion against the two of them. The two of them said, "Venerable ones, we were merely speaking definitive words and ended up speaking harshly to each other. Why did you cut us off with the action of expulsion?" They said, "Venerable ones, the Blessed One said to take the action of expulsion against those who quarrel, so we took the action of expulsion against you two." They were speechless and sat in silence. After this happened, the monks reported it to the Blessed One. The Blessed One instructed, "Do not take the action of expulsion against the two of them, but rather stop them. If they live in a certain place, then their Khenpo and teacher should discipline them. If they are elders, then they should gather the entire Sangha and pacify the dispute. If even that does not pacify it, then take the action of expulsion against the two of them."

I came by chariot, followed by garlands and clothes, and likewise the clothes of the Sangha, to the individuals with doubts. The Blessed One Buddha was residing in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Garden. In Shravasti, there were many wonders, and he dwelt there. When the Blessed One resided in Shravasti, the power of the non-Buddhists weakened, and their gains diminished. They obtained as much as they desired and began to engage in non-Buddhist activities. The householder Anathapindika would rise early each morning to go and behold the Blessed One. One day, the householder Anathapindika rose early and went to Jeta's Grove, and the non-Buddhists obtained what they wanted. They strongly urged him, and he thought: 'These are the non-Buddhists who slander the Dharma and discipline, they have obtained what they want and are engaging in non-Buddhist activities.' The Blessed One has also said to encourage those who do not have faith in the Dharma to be filled with joy in faith, to bring them into the Dharma, and to make them happy. He thought, 'If the Blessed One allows, I can also make many people happy to offer to the Sangha.' So, he went to where the Blessed One was, and upon arriving, he bowed to the Blessed One's feet with his head and sat to one side. Sitting to one side, the householder Anathapindika said to the Blessed One: 'Venerable One, these non-Buddhists who slander the Dharma and discipline, they have obtained what they want and are engaging in non-Buddhist activities. If the Blessed One allows, as said before, until people are made happy to offer to the Sangha.' The Blessed One said: 'In that case, householder, I allow you to obtain whatever you desire and to serve the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha.' After the Blessed One said to obtain whatever you desire and to serve the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, the householder Anathapindika began to strongly urge, and the Brahmins and householders...

And if you also urge those who are already懈怠, then the merit we receive will increase even more. After speaking, the Blessed One instructed: Monks, please help as well. Brahmins and householders, if they can praise by our names, that would be great. After speaking, the Blessed One instructed: If the benefactor gives, then please praise. After the householders also praised, the Brahmins and householders said: If the noble ones praise, then the merit we receive will increase even more. After speaking, the Blessed One instructed: Monks, please praise as well. When Brahmins and householders come to the monastery to make offerings, the Blessed One instructed: Please praise in the monastery as well. When the praiser was surrounded by many people and could not be seen, the Blessed One instructed: Ascend the chariot and praise. When heat, rain, and wind appeared, the Blessed One instructed: Build a multi-storied building. When many people blocked the door, the Blessed One instructed: Write four verses on the four lintels. After that, the householder Anathapindika took what he needed and accumulated many cloths, hundreds and thousands of cloths. He thought: I have accumulated so many cloths, now I should offer a meal to the Sangha of monks headed by the Buddha, and offer alms to the Sangha of monks headed by the Buddha in order of seniority. Thinking this, he decorated Jeta Grove with various cloths, hung ribbons of cloth above, and also arranged guards, and invited friends, relatives, and brothers. Then, he prepared clean and delicious food, and invited the Blessed One and the Sangha of monks to Jeta Grove for the meal. The next morning, he got up early, spread out the seats, filled the water pot with water and placed it there, and offered a meal to the Blessed One and the Sangha of Hearers. After that, he reported to the Blessed One: Venerable One, is there a place of offering in the world? There are two householders, namely, the learners and the non-learners.
