The Blessed One instructed: Do not throw away bad ones either, throw away medium ones. The Blessed One instructed: Do not throw away the bowl and robes together. The monks did not know what to do, and the Blessed One instructed: Give it to whichever monk is poor. The Six Groups always pretended to be poor, and the Blessed One instructed: Do not give it to the Six Groups, give it according to seniority. The newcomers did not receive it, and after the Blessed One inquired, the monk who answered the question informed the Sangha, and after all the monks of the Sangha had gathered and were seated, the monastery manager was instructed to evaluate the value within the Sangha. The story took place in Shravasti. In Shravasti, when another monk passed away, his bowl and robes were placed in the hands of a nun. After the monks cremated his body, they returned to the monastery to look for the bowl and robes, but they could not find them. They knew that a nun named so-and-so had them in the nun's summer retreat, so they went to the nun's summer retreat and said: Holy Mother, give back the bowl and robes of this deceased monk, which are hidden here. Later, many nuns went wandering for alms and came to that mountain village, and that householder saw them and said: Venerable mothers, the alms bowl and Dharma robes of the monk who passed away in my house are here, please take them.

They said, 'Layman, the Blessed One does not allow it, these belong to the nuns.' Thus, the monks reported to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said, 'Wherever there are no nuns, the monks may take them, and do not doubt this.' The incident took place in Shravasti. The Venerable Upali asked the Buddha, the Blessed One, 'Venerable, a monk has died, and his bowl and robes belong to a layman, who has the right?' The Blessed One said, 'Whoever comes first has the right.' If there are two, who has the right? Whoever asks first. If both ask, who has the right? Whoever gets it first. If both get it, both have the right. If both get it, whoever the householder trusts and gives to, that person has the right.' The incident took place in Shravasti. At that time, in Jeta Grove, two monks were arguing, and other monks were sitting around them. The Brahmins and householders saw it and said, 'Venerables, we see the householders arguing, we should also dissuade'
