Upali, it is not allowed, but it is permissible due to such a reason. The venerable Upali asked the Blessed One: "Venerable One, the Blessed One said that monks should make robes by measuring with a cubit. If some monks have short cubits and long bodies, should they also make them by measuring with a cubit?" Upali, that is not to be made by measuring with a cubit, but by measuring the size of his body. If a monk cannot manage to make enough robes by any means, what should he do? Upali, he should follow the previous rules. The eighth verse of the first chapter of the Discourse on the Basis. In short, there are five kinds of shoes: lion, wild animal, untamed, and it is not allowed to sit or lie down, nor should one sleep on leather. The Blessed One was staying in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. The venerable Upali asked the Blessed One: "Venerable One, the Blessed One said not to wear shoes made of wild yak leather, then, should monks not wear shoes made of ordinary yak leather either?" Upali, shoes made of those leathers should also not be worn. Upali, what is the reason for that? Because they also have the power of the nose, the power of the teeth, and the power of the feet. The Blessed One said not to wear shoes made of wild horse leather, then, should monks not wear shoes made of ordinary horse leather either? Upali, shoes made of that leather should also not be worn. What is the reason for that? Upali, because they have speed and strength. The Blessed One said not to wear shoes made of the leather of lions, tigers, and leopards, then, monks, if there are other untamed wild animals, should shoes made of those leathers not be worn either? Upali, do not wear shoes made of those leathers either. Upali, what is the reason for that? Because they also have the power of claws and the power of teeth. The Blessed One said not to sit on leather, then, monks, how is it considered to be on leather? Upali, that is, as long as the buttocks touch the ground.

Ground. The Venerable Bhagavan said not to sleep on the skin. How much does it take for a Venerable to be considered sleeping on the skin? This is because of how much Upali has increased. The ninth verse of the first chapter of the Discourse. In short, raw meat and coarse things, And things that have been completely filtered, Hemorrhoids should not be cut off, These are the temple and the rules. The Buddha Bhagavan was dwelling in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Sravasti. The venerable Upali asked the Buddha Bhagavan: Venerable Bhagavan, you said to give raw meat to the monk Sekata when he wants meat. From whom should I take it, Venerable? Upali, it is from the five kinds of meat sellers. What are the five kinds? They are butchers, those who kill domestic fowl, those who kill wild fowl, those who kill pigs, and those who kill wild animals. Then from whom should the Venerable take it and how should he give it? Upali, from a faithful layperson. The discourse is in Sravasti. At that time, another monk became ill and went to a doctor, saying, "Please cure my illness." The doctor said, "Venerable, you have this kind of illness, please prescribe a remedy." He said, "Drink ghee and you will recover." He said, "Doctor, the Bhagavan has not permitted it." The doctor said, "Your teacher is compassionate and will surely permit it." After this happened, the monks reported it to the Bhagavan, and the Bhagavan instructed, "If the doctor advises that ghee will help you recover, then drink it." After that monk drank the ghee, he became very thirsty. He said to the doctor, "Doctor, I am very thirsty." The doctor said, "Venerable, drink sour gruel." He said, "The Bhagavan has not permitted untimely food, how can I drink it?" The doctor said, "Venerable, your teacher is compassionate and will surely permit it." After this happened, the monks reported it to the Bhagavan, and the Bhagavan instructed, "In that case, drink sour gruel, it is permitted." The monks drank sour

They did not know how to drink sour gruel. When this happened, the monks reported it to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: Monks, there are five kinds of sour gruel. What are the five? They are: that which has soured from fruit wine, that which has soured from grain wine, whey water, buttermilk, and gruel. Among these, that which has soured from fruit wine is that which is made from various fruits and has become unsuitable, that is, sour. That which has soured from grain wine is that which is mixed from various grains and has become unsuitable, that is, sour. Whey water is the water that comes from whey. Buttermilk is buttermilk that has become like whey water. Gruel is gruel itself. Having diluted these with water and strained them through cloth, if it becomes like the color of an arrow shaft, then it should be drunk by monks whether it is the right time or not, whether they are sick or not sick, and there should be no hesitation about it. The story took place in Shravasti. At that time, another monk was afflicted with hemorrhoids, and he cut the hemorrhoids with his fingernails, and it became more painful, rough, hot, harmful, and painful. He was tormented by suffering, and he thought to himself: The Blessed One did not consider my suffering and difficulties. Then, the Blessed One, motivated by great compassion, went to his place and asked: Monk, what is wrong? He was sad and unhappy, his eyes filled with tears, his mouth filled with saliva, and he stammered as he told the Blessed One in detail what had happened. The Blessed One said: Monks, have I not already told you not to cut hemorrhoids? The Blessed One did indeed say so. Then why did you do that? Blessed One, because I was tormented by suffering. Then, the Blessed One said to the monks: Monks, this monk is not at fault because he was tormented by suffering. But I again advise you, monks, if you are tormented by hemorrhoids, do not cut them yourself with fingernails, etc., nor should you have others cut them. For this, two kinds of treatment should be applied,
