If there is doubt about non-human beings, it will lead to serious sins. A monk was plagued by illness for a long time, and he thought, 'What do I need this for?' So the monk went to a friend and said, 'Please give me a knife.' The other person asked, 'What do you need a knife for?' He said, 'Lend it to me for a while.' The other person gave it to him. He entered the room, closed the door, locked the latch, sat in the lotus position, and then cut his own throat. He died holding the knife in his hand like that. After two or three days, the monk thought, 'That monk took the knife and left, let's go see.' So he went to that monk's room and saw that the monk was sitting in the lotus position, had cut his throat, and had died holding the knife in his hand. The monk felt regret and thought, 'All these deaths are caused by causes. If I hadn't given him the knife, he wouldn't have ended his own life.' At this time, the Blessed One said, 'There is no sin. But from now on, do not give knives to patients casually.' A monk went to a village near another village, and when he entered the village, a woman there said, 'Monk, please come over and engage in impure conduct.' The monk said, 'Your husband is irritable and difficult to get along with.' The woman said, 'Monk, how can I make him no longer irritable and difficult to get along with?' So he gave her poison, and the householder died. The monk went to that house a day later, and the woman said, 'Monk, please come over and engage in impure conduct.' 'Sister, don't say that. I am practicing pure conduct.' She said, 'Monk, when I end his life, will you then begin to practice pure conduct?' 'Did I say to end your husband's life? Didn't I say that your husband is irritable and difficult to get along with?' 'I did say that your husband is irritable and difficult to get along with, but I didn't say to end your husband's life.' The monk felt regret and went to see the Blessed One.

said: There is no offense. A monk goes to another village, approaches the village and does things, your husband is here, this is in detail. If a monk intends to kill someone and beats them to death, he commits a Pārājika offense. If he does not die, he commits a Thullaccaya offense. If a monk does not protect and the fetus dies in the womb, he commits a Pārājika offense. If it does not die, he commits a Thullaccaya offense. If both die, he commits a Pārājika offense. If both do not die, he commits a Thullaccaya offense. If a living fetus is taken out of the womb, he commits a Thullaccaya offense. If the fetus of an animal is taken out, he also commits a Thullaccaya offense. If a nun does this, it is the same. The Vinaya text, chapter twenty-four. In short, the five kinds of coarse medicine, new work, stones, bull horns, foxes, mats, and becoming mad. A monk distributes coarse medicine drinks to the Sangha, and many monks die as a result. That monk felt remorse, and the Blessed One said: There is no offense. Two friendly monks lived together, one of them fell ill and lay in bed, and he said: If a long-lived person could find some coarse medicine, I would be well. The details are as described in the Vinaya. A Brahmin was afflicted with epilepsy, and he went to a monk and said: Venerable, if I could find some coarse medicine, I would be well. You Brahmin with wrong views, what do you need coarse medicine for? Venerable, when I was sick before, I drank some coarse medicine and I got better. That monk fed him coarse medicine, and he died. That monk felt remorse, and the Blessed One said: There is no offense. A monk went to the cemetery to observe corpses, and there was a man standing with a bright piece of wood, and he said: Venerable, if you feed me some coarse medicine, I will be well. That monk fed him coarse medicine, and he died. That monk felt remorse, and the Blessed One
