Is it permissible to build a tomb between two monasteries? Upali said it is permissible. Similarly, three or four monasteries are also permissible, but the ground should be paved with wood. When the Blessed One Buddha was wandering in the land of Kashi, he smiled in a certain place. According to the Dharma, when the Blessed One Buddha smiled, blue, yellow, red, and white lights emanated from his face, some going down and some going up. Those that went down reached the sentient being hells, the black line hell, the collective hell, the crying hell, the great crying hell, the burning hell, the extremely burning hell, the uninterrupted hell, the Atata hell, the Nirupata hell, the Atata hell, the Hahapa hell, the Huhupa hell, the Utpala-like hell, the Padma-like hell, and the Great Padma-like hells. When the light fell on those hot hell beings, they became cool; when the light fell on those cold hell beings, they became warm. This turned the suffering of those beings into a special experience of happiness, and they thought, 'Have we died and transmigrated from here? Or have we been born elsewhere?' In order to generate faith in them, the Blessed One sent forth emanations. When they saw the emanations, they thought, 'We have neither died and transmigrated from here, nor have we been born elsewhere, but through the power of this previously unseen being, we have been transformed from suffering into a special experience of happiness.' They developed faith in the emanations, and the karma of suffering in the hells disappeared, and they became vessels of truth and were reborn among gods and humans. Those that went up reached the heavens of the Four Great Kings, the Thirty-three, Yama, Tushita, Nirmāṇarati, Paranirmita-vaśavartin, Brahma-pāriṣadya, Brahma-purohita, Mahābrahmā, Parīttābha, Apramāṇābha, Ābhāsvara, Parīttaśubha, Apramāṇaśubha, Śubhakṛtsna, Anabhraka, Puṇyaprasava, Bṛhatphala, Avṛha, Atapa, Sudṛśa, Sudarśana, and Akaniṣṭha, and made them realize impermanence, suffering, and emptiness.
