If it contradicts (the Dharma), say to that monk: 'Venerable, you regard the Dharma of the monastic community of monks, including the elders and the Pratimoksha, as the Vinaya, and speak of what is not Dharma and not Vinaya. Or, venerable, you yourself hold wrong views about these Dharmas. Therefore, these Dharmas contradict the Sutra Pitaka, and if compared to the Vinaya, they do not agree with the Sutra Pitaka, nor do they originate from the Vinaya, and they also contradict the Dharma nature, so know that this is not Dharma, this is not Vinaya, this is not what the Teacher taught, abandon it.' Close the door. Furthermore, if a monk says: 'Monks, in this place called so-and-so, there are many monks who uphold the Sutra Pitaka, uphold the Vinaya, and uphold the Matrka, and I have personally heard from those venerable monks, and personally received, that this is the Dharma, this is the Vinaya, this is what the Teacher taught.'

It is not Dharma, he says it is not Vinaya. Or the venerable one himself has perversely grasped this Dharma. From "know and abandon" onwards, it is the same as before. Furthermore, one bhikkhu says to another bhikkhu: "Venerable one, in a place called 'here,' there is a householder with faith and belief. Venerable one, I myself heard and received directly from that householder: 'This is Dharma, this is Vinaya, this is what the Teacher taught.'" From "say this to that bhikkhu" onwards, it is the same as before. "How is it, venerable one, that you regard the householder as Dharma, regard it as Vinaya, and thus say it is not Dharma, not Vinaya? Or the venerable one himself has perversely grasped these Dharmas." From "know and abandon" onwards, it is the same as before. Furthermore, one bhikkhu says to the bhikkhus: "Venerable ones, I myself heard directly from the gods: 'This is Dharma, this is Vinaya, this is what the Teacher taught.'" From "say this to that bhikkhu" onwards, it is the same as before. "How is it, venerable one, that the gods make you regard this as Dharma, regard it as Vinaya, and thus say it is not Dharma, not Vinaya? Or the venerable one himself has perversely grasped these Dharmas." From "know and abandon" onwards, it is the same as before. The so-called six great teachings are as follows: To the bhikkhus, one bhikkhu says: "Venerable ones, I myself heard directly from the Blessed One, and received directly: 'This is Dharma, this is Vinaya, this is what the Teacher taught.'" That bhikkhu should neither approve nor disparage his words, but should grasp the words, meanings, and letters, and compare them with the sutras and examine them in the Vinaya. If it is compared with the sutras and examined in the Vinaya, and it agrees with the sutras, and it also comes from the Vinaya, and it does not contradict the Dharma nature, then say this to that bhikkhu: "Venerable one, these Dharmas were spoken by the Blessed One."
