How should we stay here? After saying, "Draw the boundary and come over here," they replied, "Okay, we will do so." As soon as they had drawn the boundary, the monks who had been staying there before arrived. The group of six monks said to them, "Take a rest." They replied, "Venerable ones, you have arrived suddenly. We have been staying here before, so it is appropriate for us to tell you to take a rest." The group of six monks said, "Venerable ones, we have also drawn the boundary." They replied, "We also drew the boundary earlier." Those monks were in doubt whether the earlier boundary was valid or the later one. The monks reported this matter to the Blessed One. The Blessed One instructed, "Monks, even if the newly arrived monks see the monastery empty as soon as they enter, they should not draw the boundary. They should rest from the journey and investigate carefully. If there is no one who has been staying there before, then they should draw the boundary. Otherwise, they should not draw the boundary." The story took place in Shravasti. At the gate of Jeta Grove, two householders had a quarrel. At that time, a monk gathered there, and one of them won him over. He made a big fuss about it in the king's palace, and as a result, the other party failed, so he scolded him. After the incident, the monks reported it to the Blessed One. The Blessed One instructed, "Monks, it is wrong for the householder to scold that person. Therefore, monks should not sit next to people who are quarreling, nor should they make a big fuss about it. Avoid them and leave. If a monk sits next to people who are quarreling and makes a big fuss about it, he will commit an offense involving expulsion." This is the tenth verse in the sutra of the fourth gate of the Nidana. The fourth gate of the Nidana is complete. Explanation of the fifth gate of the Nidana. In brief: The forms of Bodhisattvas, places of pilgrimage, and vessels of offerings, places of assembly and platforms, great drums and wheels are the last (that should not be destroyed). In short, what the great sage has said is permitted: the image of the Bodhisattva, the platform and the victory banner, as well as the flag and the iron pillar.
