Oh, like that. The elder monks, having taken (the offerings), felt displeased. The Blessed One taught: One should abide, and should be respected by the young and the old. Monks and elders, you should protect (these rules). The offered wealth, flowers, and clothes, etc., were placed on the cart, and some, without permission, took the fallen items and forcibly took them away. The householder Anāthapiṇḍada said, "If the Blessed One allows, I will make a container for garlands on the cart." The Blessed One taught: "Householder, allow it to be done." The monks did not stop the music, and the people did not leave separately, but hid the ornaments of their bodies. Brahmins and believing householders, like us, developed distrust towards the noble ones. Alas, why don't you stop the music? If many people leave separately and untie the ornaments of their bodies, what fault would there be?" The monks reported what had happened to the Blessed One. The Blessed One taught: "Monks, the criticism of the Brahmins and householders is justified. Therefore, do not stop the music, nor let many people leave separately, and monks should not defile the ornaments of their bodies. If they are defiled, they will be judged as fallen." This is the third verse of the fifth chapter of the Discourse on Matters. In short: gatherings and festivals, and the last month of spring and face washing, after five and six years, finally the great offering festival. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was staying in the Jeta Grove of Anāthapiṇḍada in Śrāvastī. The householder Anāthapiṇḍada, seeing the monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen residing in various places, felt joyful and thought: The Blessed One taught, "Monks, there are five ways of giving alms in due time. What are these five? Giving alms to those who come suddenly and to those who have desires, this is the first time for giving alms. Giving alms to the sick and to those who care for the sick, this is the second time for giving alms.

This is the second occasion. Giving alms in times of poor harvest and urgent poverty is the third occasion for giving. Whoever it may be, with regard to new crops, new fruits, and new produce, first giving them to those who are virtuous and possess qualities, and then consuming them oneself, this is the fourth occasion for giving. Whoever it may be, when there is wind, fog, rain, or cold, and because of the wind, fog, rain, or cold, one offers food, sour porridge, thick soup, or drinks to the Sangha, and by consuming these sacred things, the body will not become wet, and the robes will not be affected by the rain, thus experiencing comfort and abiding in it, this is the fifth occasion for giving. Therefore, thinking of the monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen residing in various places, who are weary from their journey, 'If the Blessed One allows, I will prepare a meal for them,' they went to where the Blessed One was, approached him, bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One, and sat to one side. Having sat to one side, they said to the Blessed One: 'Venerable Blessed One, giving alms to those who suddenly come and reside in various places is called the first occasion for giving, and up to the point where, as before, one can experience comfort and abide in it, which is called the fifth occasion for giving. Now, for the great offering to the Bodhisattva, if the Blessed One allows, I will prepare food for those who have suddenly come from various places, such as monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen, who are exhausted from their journey.' The Blessed One replied: 'Householder, please prepare it.' The householder Anathapindika asked the Blessed One: 'Blessed One, in which month were you born?' The Blessed One replied: 'Householder, I was born in the lower spring month.' 'If the Blessed One allows, I will prepare to warm the palace of the Blessed One.'

Lapa and so on. The Blessed One (Tibetan: བཅོམ་ལྡན་འདས།) said: "Householder, please allow to prepare." Again, the householder asked: "At what age did the Blessed One shave his head?" The Blessed One said: "Householder, at the age of five." The householder said: "If the Blessed One allows, I will hold a feast of offerings for the Blessed One once every five years." The Blessed One said: "Householder, please allow to prepare." Again, the householder asked: "At what age did the Blessed One keep his topknot?" The Blessed One said: "Householder, at the age of six." The householder said: "If the Blessed One allows, I will hold a feast of offerings for the topknot." The Blessed One said: "Householder, please allow to prepare." Again, the householder asked: "In which month did the Blessed One realize the unsurpassed wisdom?" The Blessed One said: "Householder, in the last month of spring." The householder said: "If the Blessed One allows, I will hold a great feast of offerings for the Blessed One appearing in the shade of the Jambudvipa." The Blessed One said: "Householder, please allow to prepare." The fourth verse of the fifth sutra of the "Gate of Topics". In short: grass mats and doubts, sitting before and after, noises and roads, gandi (a musical instrument), conch and drumming. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was staying in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden. The Blessed One said: "Prepare a communal meal." Many monks were without seats, and the Blessed One said: "Spread out grass mats and sit there to eat." The Blessed One said: "Sit on the grass mats." After the monks had eaten, they became doubtful and carried away the grass mats. The Blessed One said: "Do not carry away the mats, but pile them up. When the feast is completely finished, take them all away." The monks sat before and after the feast time, and some left after eating, while others came late and did not receive anything, and were in a hurry. The Blessed One said: "Sit in order as it is."
