Venerable sir, if a Bhikṣu, having been asked by a Bhikṣu, conceals a Bhikṣu's offense of defeat in the Arya language, and that Bhikṣu does not understand the Arya language, what happens? He commits a misdeed. If an Arya, using the language of the border regions, conceals a Bhikṣu's offense of defeat, and that Bhikṣu does not understand the language of the border regions, what happens? He commits a misdeed. If a person from the border regions, using the language of the border regions, conceals a Bhikṣu's offense of defeat, and that Bhikṣu does not understand the language of the border regions, what happens? He commits a misdeed. If a person from the border regions, using the Arya language, conceals an offense of defeat, and that Bhikṣu does not understand the Arya language, what happens? Venerable sir, if a Bhikṣu, while concealing a Bhikṣu's offense of defeat, undergoes a change of sex and becomes a Bhikṣuṇī, what happens? He commits a misdeed. If one perceives a non-fully ordained person as fully ordained and conceals it, what happens? He commits a misdeed. Venerable ones. When fully ordained, if one sees the faults of a bhikkhu's bad conduct and conceals it when not fully ordained, what happens? He commits a misdeed. If one sees it when not fully ordained and conceals it when fully ordained, what happens? He commits a misdeed. If one does not see it when not fully ordained and conceals it when fully ordained, what happens? He commits a misdeed. Similarly, if one conceals the faults of bad conduct of a eunuch, a hermaphrodite, one who has expelled a bhikkhuni, one who has killed a father, one who has killed a mother, one who has killed an arhat, one who has drawn blood from a Tathagata with malicious intent, a thief's place, a non-dwelling place, a separate dwelling place, a heretic, one who has become a heretic, one who has previously quarreled, one who has previously committed an offense, all of them will commit a misdeed. Venerable ones. If a bhikkhu conceals the faults of bad conduct of one who has caused a schism in the Sangha, one who is close to division, and one who has given precepts, what happens? He will commit an offense entailing expulsion. Venerable ones. If a bhikkhu conceals the faults of a bhikkhu's bad conduct from a householder, what happens? He commits a misdeed. Similarly, if one conceals from a eunuch, a hermaphrodite, up to those who have previously quarreled, all of them will commit a misdeed. Venerable ones. If a bhikkhu conceals the faults of a bhikkhu's bad conduct from those who have caused a schism in the Sangha, those who are close to division, and those who have given precepts, what happens? All
