If not, but make and hold more than eight fingers of the Sugata's length, it will be a downfall. Thus it is said. Bhikshu, if a bhikshu makes a Sangha bed or small bed that exceeds eight fingers of the Sugata, what will happen? It is a misdeed. Bhikshu, if a bhikshu asks another to make it, what will happen? It is a misdeed. Bhikshu, if it is not so and is discarded, what will happen? It is a misdeed. Bhikshu, if a bhikshu asks to make a bed or small bed that exceeds eight fingers of the Sugata, and (at this time) changes sex and becomes a bhikshuni, what will happen? It is a downfall. Similarly, from asking a zama (a kind of eunuch) and a maning (hermaphrodite) and an expelled bhikshuni, until giving the extensive precepts, if he asks (them) to make it, all will be misdeeds. Bhikshu, is there a case where a bhikshu asks to make a Sangha bed or small bed that exceeds eight fingers of the Sugata, but does not commit a downfall? Upali, there is, namely asking someone unsuitable to make it. Bhikshu, if one who has not taken full ordination starts to make a Sangha bed or small bed that exceeds the measure of eight fingers of the Sugata, and completes it before taking full ordination, what will happen? 若已开始受具足戒，受具足戒后完成，会怎样？犯了单堕罪。若在受具足戒时开始，受具足戒时完成，会怎样？犯了堕罪。若在受具足戒时开始，未受具足戒而完成，会怎样？犯了单堕罪。总之，送信、书信、手势，以及他人之语和从一至一，变为疯癫和心烦意乱，生病、耳聋、行走。诸位，比丘若以信息使僧众的床或小床超过善逝八指之量，会怎样？犯了单堕罪。同样，若以书信和手势，以及他人之语，从一至一传递而使之做，一切都将犯单堕罪。诸位，比丘若以信息使僧众的床或小床超过善逝八指之量，而使疯癫者做，会怎样？犯了单堕罪。同样，若使心烦意乱者、被疾病折磨者、愚笨者、哑巴、耳聋者以及住在别处者做，一切都将犯单堕罪。诸位，若教导后使僧众的床或小床超过善逝八指之量，会怎样？犯了堕罪。比丘尼若使之做，会怎样？犯了堕罪。沙弥尼、正学女和沙弥若使之做，会怎样？犯了单堕罪。如持戒品之章节一样，钵、坐垫、止痒布、夏季大布衣和善逝的法衣也应如此宣说。出自神圣的律藏，堕罪全部结束。 宣说仅成堕罪者。

In short, sending messages, letters, gestures, and the words of others, and from one to another, becoming insane and mentally disturbed, being sick, deaf, and walking. Bhikshus, what happens if a bhikshu, using information, causes the sangha's bed or small bed to exceed the measure of eight fingers of the Sugata? One commits a single transgression. Similarly, if one causes it to be done by transmitting letters and gestures, and the words of others, from one to another, all will commit a single transgression. Bhikshus, what happens if a bhikshu, using information, causes a madman to make the sangha's bed or small bed exceed the measure of eight fingers of the Sugata? One commits a single transgression. Similarly, if one causes those who are mentally disturbed, afflicted by illness, foolish, mute, deaf, and those who dwell elsewhere to do it, all will commit a single transgression. Bhikshus, what happens if, after teaching, one causes the sangha's bed or small bed to exceed the measure of eight fingers of the Sugata? One commits a downfall. What happens if a bhikshuni causes it to be done? One commits a downfall. What happens if a shramanerika, a shikshamana, and a shramana cause it to be done? One commits a single transgression. Just as with the chapter on the objects of training, the bowl, the mat, the itch covering cloth, the summer large cloth garment, and the Sugata's Dharma garment should also be spoken of in the same way. From the sacred Vinaya scripture, the downfalls are all completed. The explanation of those that become only downfalls.
