Thus spoke. Venerable, if a monk takes precious jewels or things belonging to precious jewels with his own hand, will he not incur a transgression or downfall? Upali, there is. If one takes five precious jewels, such as a woman jewel, one will incur an offense as if it were the real thing. However, if one takes a jewel orb or a wheel jewel, it is a downfall. Venerable, if a monk is holding a precious jewel or something belonging to a precious jewel and transforms into a nun, what happens? It is a downfall. Venerable, if a nun is holding a precious jewel or something belonging to a precious jewel and transforms into a monk, what happens? It is a downfall. Venerable, if a monk perceives something as a precious jewel and takes it, what happens? It is a downfall. If one perceives something as a precious jewel but it is not, and takes it, what happens?
