Dividing the boundary by those who are mentally disturbed, afflicted by illness, foolish, mute, and deaf, is this considered dividing the boundary? Upali, it is considered dividing the boundary, and the Sangha is deceased. Bhikshu, dividing the boundary by means of a message, is this considered dividing the boundary? Upali, it is considered dividing the boundary, and the Sangha is deceased. Similarly, dividing the boundary through letters, gestures, and passing it on from one to another, is this considered dividing the boundary? Upali, it is considered dividing the boundary, and the Sangha is deceased. Bhikshu, if one says, "Others," and divides the boundary in this way, is this considered dividing the boundary? Upali, no. Bhikshu, if laypeople complete the number and divide the boundary, is this considered dividing the boundary? Upali, it is not considered dividing the boundary, and the Sangha is also deceased. Similarly, it should be applied between food, eunuchs, non-residents, those who reside separately, those who reside in other realms, and those who were previously mentally disturbed. Bhikshu, if those who cause division in the Sangha, those who are close, and those who give instructions complete the number and divide the boundary, is this considered dividing the boundary? Upali, it is considered dividing the boundary, and the Sangha is deceased. Bhikshu, similarly, if those who are mentally disturbed, afflicted by illness, foolish, mute, deaf, sleeping, intoxicated, delirious, in meditative absorption, and those who reside in other realms complete the number and divide the boundary, is this considered dividing the boundary? Upali, it is considered dividing the boundary, and the Sangha is deceased. In short, giving and receiving, and the Sangha, the fourth and the second, and the sign, severance and separation from one to one, the path and the many are the same. Bhikshu, if a Bhikshu takes faith and the division of the boundary and exists in the sky above, without hope for the sake of the boundary, is this considered not giving faith and the division of the boundary? Upali, it is considered not giving. Bhikshu, if it exists with hope, is this considered not giving? Upali, no, but it will become deceased. Monk, if a noble monk gives trust and distributes shares in the language of the noble, and those monks do not understand the language of the noble, is it called giving trust and distributing shares? Upali, it is not. If a noble one gives trust and distributes shares in the language of the borderlands, and those monks do not understand the language of the borderlands, is it called giving trust and distributing shares? Upali, it is not. Monk, if a borderlander gives trust and distributes shares in the language of the borderlands, and those monks do not understand the language of the borderlands, is it called giving trust and distributing shares? Upali, it is not. Monk, if a borderlander gives trust and distributes shares in the language of the noble, and those monks do not understand the language of the noble, is it called giving trust and distributing shares? Upali, it is not. Monk, if a monk who gives trust and distributes shares indicates with the body but not with words, is it called giving trust and distributing shares? Upali, it is called giving. Likewise, if one speaks with words but does not indicate with the body, and also indicates with both words and body, is it also called giving trust and distributing shares? Upali, it is called giving. Monk, if one neither indicates with the body nor speaks with words, is it called giving trust and distributing shares? Upali, it is not. Monk, if a monk who gives trust and distributes shares has passed away, is it called giving trust and distributing shares? Upali, it is not. Monk, if one who is free from transgression gives trust and distributes shares, is it called giving trust and distributing shares? Upali, it is called giving.
