If one mocks or ridicules, what happens? One commits an offense. Bhikshu, if temporarily giving the number of bhikshus, if a bhikshu causes division in the Sangha, and draws blood from the Tathagata with malicious intent, and dwells separately, and mocks or ridicules the one who gives precepts, what happens? One commits a downfall. Bhikshu, if temporarily giving the number of bhikshus, performing the Sangha's appointment. For those other than the appointed and unappointed, if one mocks or ridicules, what happens? One commits an offense. Summary: messenger, writing, gesture, and accusing others, transmitting, and madness and mental confusion, and sensation, deafness, foolishness, and sleep, coma, drunkenness, and entering into samadhi, walking is the last. This is the Vinaya scripture master, the eleventh volume, which is the last. Bhikshu, if temporarily giving the number of bhikshus, if one mocks or ridicules the messenger, what happens? One commits an offense. Similarly, writing and gesture, and accusing others and transmitting, what happens? One commits an offense. Bhikshu, if temporarily giving the number of bhikshus, if one mocks or ridicules a mad bhikshu, what happens? One commits an offense. Similarly, mental confusion, and being tormented by sensation, and foolishness and deafness, and being troubled by sleep, and not being skilled in work, and being drunk, and entering into samadhi, and a bhikshu dwelling in another place, if one mocks or ridicules, what happens? One commits an offense. Bhikshu, if temporarily a bhikshu mocks or ridicules a bhikshuni, and a shramanerika, and a shramana, and a shramanerika, what happens? One commits an offense. Bhikshu, if temporarily giving the number of bhikshunis, if one mocks or ridicules a bhikshuni, what happens? One commits a downfall. For a bhikshu, and a shramanerika, and a shramana, and a shramanerika, if one mocks or ridicules, what happens? One commits an offense. Bhikshu, if temporarily mocking or ridiculing the one who gives precepts, what happens? One commits a downfall. Etc. (Verse) Transgression, as well as body and, speech, non-speech, gender change, etc., laypeople, etc., and, the four categories are the last. The Venerable Ānanda asked the Buddha, the Bhagavan: "Venerable, what does it mean when the Bhagavan said that listening to the instructions is a downfall?" Venerable, if a monk discusses listening for reasons other than faults, what will happen? It is a downfall. Venerable, if a monk listens with a physical expression, what will happen? It is a misdeed. Venerable, if a monk from the central region instructs a monk from the border region in the language of the border region, and the monk from the central region does not understand the language of the border region, what will happen? It is a misdeed. If a monk from the border region instructs a monk from the border region in the language of the central region, and the monk from the border region does not understand the language of the central region, what will happen? It is a misdeed. If a monk from the border region instructs a monk from the central region in the language of the border region, and the monk from the central region does not understand the language of the border region, what will happen? It is a misdeed. Venerable, if a monk listens to the instructions of a layperson, what will happen? It is a misdeed. Similarly, a fully ordained monk, a eunuch, a hermaphrodite, an expelled nun, one who killed his mother, one who killed his father, one who killed an Arhat, a heretic, one who has joined a heretical sect, and one who is engaged in stealing, etc.
