It becomes an offense entailing forfeiture. Bhikshu, suppose a bhikshuni knowingly asks a householder or a householder's attendant who is not a relative, and then changes her mind, becomes a bhikshu and obtains it, what happens? It becomes an offense entailing forfeiture. Bhikshu, suppose a bhikshu knowingly asks a householder or a householder's attendant who is not a relative, and then that householder changes his mind, becomes a woman and accepts it, what happens? It becomes an offense entailing forfeiture. Bhikshu, suppose a bhikshu knowingly asks a householder or a householder's attendant who is not a relative, and then that householder's attendant changes his mind, is considered a man and accepts it, what happens? It becomes an offense entailing forfeiture. Similarly, it should also be applied to bhikshunis. Bhikshu, suppose a bhikshu knowingly asks a householder for food, what happens? It is a misdeed. If food is obtained, what happens? It is a misdeed. Similarly, for hermaphrodites and female hermaphrodites, it is also a misdeed. Bhikshu, suppose a bhikshu knowingly asks for items other than clothing, what happens? It is a misdeed. If obtained, what happens? It is only a misdeed. Bhikshu, suppose a bhikshu knowingly asks for clothing for the sake of a bhikshu, a bhikshuni, a shramanerika, a shramanera, or a shramanerika, what happens? It is a misdeed. If clothing is obtained, what happens? It is only a misdeed. Just as a bhikshu knowingly asking becomes an offense entailing forfeiture, giving to a trainee and a bhikshuni also becomes an offense entailing forfeiture. For shramanerikas, shramaneras, shramanerikas, and those who have previously committed offenses, etc., it is a misdeed, and it should be explained in detail. The venerable Ananda asked the Buddha, the Bhagavan. Bhikshu, the Bhagavan, for the sake of a bhikshu, the householder and the householder's wife are not relatives, separately collecting the value of the cloth, we two use the value of these cloths to make this

Having bought them separately like this, when the monk named so-and-so comes, we two will separately offer him a suitable robe in time.' Thinking thus. Then, if that monk, without having previously hinted, perceives some thoughts, and for the sake of goodness, goes to the householder and the householder's wife, who are not relatives, and says this: 'Venerable ones, with the separate prices of robes that you have accumulated for me, venerable ones, buy separate robes like this and this, and then the two of you combine to offer me a suitable robe well in time.' Having said this, if the robe is completed, it will become a Nissaggiya Pacittiya. ' This is what the Blessed One said. The remaining text is: Just as one treats someone who has just transgressed a training rule, so too should this training rule be explained in detail. Summarized as: Messenger, letters, and gestures, blaming others and transmission, madness and mental confusion, sensory dullness, deafness, dumbness, foolishness, sleep, drowsiness, extreme intoxication, absorption, walking, and outsiders. The venerable Ananda asked the Blessed One: 'Venerable One, if a king, a great minister, a Brahmin, a householder, a townsperson, a villager, a rich person, a merchant, or a captain sends the price of a robe into the hand of a messenger for the sake of a monk, and then that messenger takes the price of the robe and goes to that monk, and having arrived, says this to the monk: 'Holy one, please be aware, so-and-so, the king, the great minister, the Brahmin, the householder, the townsperson, the villager, the rich person, the merchant, or the captain has sent these prices of robes, please accept these for the sake of compassion.' If he says this, that monk should say to the messenger: 'Virtuous messenger, monks are not allowed to accept the price of robes, but if we obtain a suitable robe in time, then we may accept it.' If that messenger says to that monk: 'Please instruct, holy ones.'

If someone asks, "What are some ways in which the noble ones accept advice?" A monk desiring robes says to the messenger, "This is the advisor of the monks; this is how the monks accept advice." One should point out the monastery manager or the lay advisor. Then, that messenger, taking the price of the robes, goes to where the advisor is, and upon arriving, says to the advisor, "O venerable advisor, know this! With this price of robes, buy such and such robes, and when a monk named so-and-so comes, put the suitable robes on him in due time." Having said this, that messenger thoroughly and very correctly instructs and advises the advisor, and then goes to where that monk is, and upon arriving, says to that monk, "I have correctly instructed the advisor indicated by the noble ones; please go to him, and he will put the suitable robes on you in due time." If he says this, the monk desiring robes goes to the advisor, (and says,) "O venerable advisor, I desire robes! O venerable advisor, I desire robes!" He should urge him two or three times, and remind him. If he urges him two or three times and reminds him, if the robes are made, that is good. If they are not made, he should remain silent, sitting and waiting for four, five, or six times. Having remained silent, sitting and waiting for four, five, or six times, if the robes are made, that is good. If they are not made, then afterwards, striving to complete the robes, if the robes are made, he will incur a relinquishment offense. If they are not made, I should go to where the price of the robes came from. Or, from a trustworthy messenger, the venerable ones entrusted the price of the robes to the messenger for the sake of a certain monk, but those things were not accomplished at all for that monk, know this! O venerable ones, do not waste your own wealth!" One should announce this, for this, this is the procedure. This is what (the Buddha) said.
