Similarly, for a nun, using five robes becomes an offense of expiation. For female novices, male novices, and female trainees, there is no offense. For cases where offenses have occurred previously, there is an offense of wrong-doing, as before. Summary: Disturbed mind and past time, likewise permission and non-permission, as well as bedding and dimensions, and the four assemblies and names. The Blessed One asked the Venerable Ananda. Monks, the Blessed One said, if a monk already has robes, takes out strong robes, and wishes to obtain out-of-season clothes, then that monk should accept those clothes. After accepting them, if they are sufficient, they should be quickly made into robes and cut. If they are not sufficient, and there is hope of obtaining clothes to supplement the insufficiency

Me. (The Blessed One) said: 'A monk should keep that robe for a month. If it is kept beyond that time, it becomes a Nissaggiya Pacittiya.' What does this mean? Venerable sir. Suppose a monk becomes mentally disturbed as soon as he obtains a robe, from when should that month be counted? From when should one regain one's own mind? From the time of regaining one's own mind. Venerable sir. The Blessed One said: 'A monk should keep a robe for a month.' What does this mean? Venerable sir. Is it the case that a monk will not incur a transgression even if he keeps a robe for his entire life? Near Round. Yes, if he dies within (keeping it for) one month. Venerable sir. The Blessed One said: 'A monk should keep a robe for a month.' What does this mean? What kind of robe is it? Any of the seven (robes) that I have allowed and not prohibited. Venerable sir. The Blessed One said: 'A monk should keep a robe for a month.' What does this mean? Venerable sir. Is it the case that a monk will not incur a Nissaggiya Pacittiya even if he keeps it for more than a month? Near Round. Yes, like this, if the type of robe is permissible but the material is not permissible; or the type is not permissible but the material is permissible; or both are not permissible. What is not permissible is: mixed with goat hair, cow hair, deer hair, sheep wool, and unwoven. Such a robe, even if kept for more than a month, will constitute a Dukkaṭa. Venerable sir, the Blessed One said: 'A monk should keep that robe for a month.' What does this mean? Venerable sir. Is it the case that a monk will not incur a transgression even if he keeps a robe for six months? Near Round. Yes, if that robe has been obtained for thirty days, or if the Sangha's hard mat has been laid out. Venerable sir. The Blessed One said: 'If the three robes are not complete, then it should be kept for a month.' What does this mean? Venerable sir. If a monk who already possesses the three robes obtains an incomplete robe, should he also keep it for a month?
